Thread: hammer c3 31 vs Incra v27

Hi Squidrun, I am wondering which model c3-31 you bought. Doesn't it have a sliding table??

Welcome to the wacky world of Hammer.......and non-standard mitre slots. Why they persist with this is beyond me. A friend had exactly the same issues as you (except he bought a standard mitre gauge AND an expensive tenoning rig as well, neither of which be used with this machine)

If it has a sliding table (as most C3-31 do), why do you want a mitre gauge?

Generally, European machines do not have the standard 3/4" mitre slot to take mitre gauges and tenon jigs. As the hammer had a sliding table, the mitre gauge should not be required. Tenon jigs, now that is another matter . Maybe they sell their own tenon jig for the machine.

An option could be do get your mitre slots professionally milled out by an engineering firm to accommodate standard after market mitre guides such as the Incra. My table saw had this done by the previous owner without any problems.

it is a standard hammer c3 31, and yes it does have a sliding table.
the reason behind wanting to mount the Incra Mitre Gauge was to be able to make easily repeatable angled cuts with a gauge that actually locks into position.
the setup for angled cuts on these machines,with no postive locking angle stops, leaves a bit to be desired, in my opinion. . to cut a known angle, your crosscut fence can only be used in one position because the scale determining the angle is mounted on the sliding table... just a few observations from a new user..
i guess what i should have said in earlier post is that i was expecting the glideLOCK bar with expansion points would hold the gauge in position on the sliding table...
Not to worry though, it only cost me $30 and i am sure i can find a use for it elsewhere....

everything else on the machine i am extremely happy with, thickneser/buzzer is great, and i love having a spindle to play around with... it also came with a makita 3600b plunge router and the dust extractor.
have just been running it in, or should i say running myself in on it.. takes some getting used to working things in order so as that having to reset for a new task is a constant affair..

i should also say that along with this gear, i was also given a scroll saw, so that has been quite a fun little exercise... will post photos later for anyone interested in seeing what im working on..have been running up some sandalwood on the thicknesser, now my garage smells amazing!!!
