    Default Harvey HW110LGE-30 Query

    Hi All,

I have just purchased and in the final steps of setting up my new Harvey Table saw. Model No. HW110LGE-30

Love the machine and very happy with my decision. Eveything about this unit is quality.
I have spent some time getting to know/understand the inner workings having never owned a cabinet saw before so I can better maintain the machine. After spending a lot of time reading what other TS owners have done on their equipment, I have cleaned off all the factory grease and I have applied a dry lubricant.
Whilst I had my head in the cabinet I noticed that the rear of the worm gear on the blade height shaft doesn’t seem to mate properly with the what I assume is the “height limit stop” built into the geared rack (apologies for my terminology).
The saw seems to crank up and stop perfectly fine (I’m measuring about 72.4mm of maximum cutting capacity at full height) but I just wasn’t sure if it was just a manufacturing flaw or if this is normal for this particular model. I can not see any adjustments to improve on this setup.
I would have thought for longevity it would have been better that the face of the stop on the height mechanism mated square with the rear of the worm gear not on the top corner of it? (I hope I am explaining this correctly).

Again, everything seems to work fine and I don't know any better as I have never owned a cabinet saw before.

I was just hoping other Harvey owners can confirm if their gearing is similar to this particular unit.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Tahlee,

Thanks for that. I have that manual and read it thoroughly before I took ownership of the Harvey so I knew exactly what was required with the setup. I was hoping for some feedback from other owners as to whether the arbor bearing housing and worm gear on their TS looked similar. It looks like they may have filed it down in the factory during the final setup (why? not sure) but I was just concerned about the angle that the two different pieces meshed together and wear overtime. I did email Harvey in China and they were quick to respond saying there was no issue from what they could see.

I have tried to search on the Baileigh TS1040-P, Laguna Platinum, Grizzly G0690 or the Craftex equivalents which all essentially run the same trunnion but haven't found any useful info.

It may be a non-issue and I may just have to remember not to be overzealous when cranking up the blade height but given I have just dropped $2500 on this beast I thought I would just put the question out there.

    Many Thanks.

I just measured my Harvey at full height ... 73.4mm is my value

The gears look like yours do to... I had a problem with the copper washes at the far end of the pin lock shaft a while ago ... I understand it is a recurring issue for some.

So if it gets hard to wind up it is because the copper washer is being eaten by the set screw.

My advice is strongly not to mess around with the worm gears ... it is one hell of a job to get them meshing so that there is no racking ... leave them alone is my advice.

    Regards

    Rob

    Thanks Rob.

I appreciate you taking the time to check it out for me.

Even though the TS is marketed as 75mm max. ripping at 90degress, the factory stated that it being slightly less is due to running the 30mm arbor and to meet CE standards.

    Thanks again

    Trav
