Smile Harvey HW110LGE-30 Table Saw purchase and unboxing

So finally pulled the pin after much to much contemplation and bought a saw. I spent eons contemplating hybrid over cabinet saw. Once like a professional procrastinator I finally decided the playing field had changed a bit with Baileigh and Harvey becoming available.

Beginning of December 2015 I called Baileigh and Woodworking Warehouse. No idea why just didn't enjoy the interaction with Bailleigh which was enough to discount them. They also gave me the wrong information and told me the trunnion was attached to the table and not the base.

I popped into Woodworking Warehouse and had a look at the Laguna Fusion. Great looking saw but it was not setup properly was all a bit wobbly and put me off. A bit silly because it was obviously not put together for production use but none the less I was looking for something to say "gimme your money now!"

Read every thread and review I could find and in the US the Grizzly 690 gets nothing but complimentary reviews. Add to that several businesses take this Harvey saw, rebadge it as their own and build businesses and reputations on top of that...for me that is all the review I needed.

What are my wood qualifications or why should you disregard everything you read here. Because I have no training or skill to speak of. I am youtube wood junky and aspire to one day build something that does not embarrass me. I had several cracks at using a contractor saw but never had the patience for dealing with the bizarre fences and mountains of dust.

She served me well but no more scary ripping for me.

All said and done off the general vibe I got from fellow wood fiddlers on this and other forums I ordered the Harvey HW110LGE-30 from Ryan at Major Woodworking Equipment. Tablesaws - Major Woodworking Equipment

Cost delivered to my door on the Mornington Peninsula was approximately $2800. This included a heavy duty mobile base and tail lift service to put the 240kg beast into the garage. I think freight alone was over $200.

    IMG_20160115_155357.jpg

So far packing has been immaculate, no damage to anything.

Here is the mobile base I am assuming it will not be to painful to get the saw off the pallet and this in place.

This mobile base is a brain dead assembly that just clicks together with some spring loaded thumb toggles (my own name)

Default The joke is on me!!

Well the joke is on me. Given I have never handled heavy machinery I had no idea and I hope I am not the first. The machine is bolted to the pallet! IMG_20160116_111016.jpgYou should have seen me marvelling at how heavy the machine is while I was stand on the pallet trying to pick up my own weight (125kg) and the saw. So after endless wrangling and fussing including destroying that the infamous bottom band sticker it was not particularly arduous getting it onto the mobile base. It would have been 10x easier had I asked someone to help me.

I did find a collection of iron filling from the manufacturing process.
    IMG_20160116_101130.jpg

A comment about the mobile base. I had the break on the wheels on one side so I could tilt the machine and slide the other half of the base under the table. Well them breaks served no purpose the machine just went flying. Given I have no reference on how well they should work you may want to keep that in mind if you have some formula one style breaking requirement.

Next will be the novice report on assembly. As usual will be giving it a crack on my own.

Default Height of table once on the mobile base

Thought some may find it of use to know how heigh the table is once it is in the mobile base.

In my case with the Major Woodworking Equipment mobile base the table height is 880mm

    Thumbs up Manual is horrendous

Sorry for the repetition but was hoping since the last thread I read was about a year ago there may have been some improvement in the manual but sadly not. It is still dated the 2013 version. It is rubbish.

I used the grizzly one and it worked a treat. http://cdn1.grizzly.com/manuals/g0690_m.pdf

The grizzly manual does say to put the front fence 3/16 below the beveled edge of the table. That worked out to roughly 8mm all up. I just used my combination square as a depth gauge.

    IMG_20160116_141947.jpg

All up assembly was 1-2 hours. Elapsed time was 10-4pm but there was an awful lot of mucking around in between. There was nothing complicated or fiddly. Everything is very well laid out and accessible.

Default Does it run on a 10amp circuit?

My saw starts and runs just fine on a 10amp circuit. I am led to believe the saw only requires 12.8amp to fire up and it started just fine with all the other things running around the garage.

I just bought a 15amp extension cord socket from Bunnings and put it onto an existing heavy gauge cord I had.

Light relief because I had already blown the budget with the minister of finance

Nice saw terry. A quality table saw is the heart of many workshops. I still use mine far more than any other machine. Make sure you get the blade perfectly aligned I the the mitre slot and fence.

Buy good blades, but keep the cheap one that came with the saw. Good for cutting painted or dirty timber.

    Enjoy your new tool!

    Question Cleaning the trunnion

@trav hoping you could help. Considering the goop in the cabinet. Is it a preventative or lubricant. Should I clean it all off.

    Thanks
    Terry

Is it on the saw mechanism, or just on the cabinet? I'd clean it off the cabinet, and depending on how much is on the saw, off that too. Some of the mechanisms need lubrication, but not big gobs of the stuff. It will be like a sawdust magnet.

Cleaned off the goop with brushes, rags and WD40.

Sorry pics are terrible, autofocus on the phone is pure lottery. The goop on the angle gear on the right is responding to the WD40 and thinning.

Got some Dry Glide from TotalTools to use a lube.

The effect had a reasonable effect on the blade angle action. It is crazy light you can spin the wheel twice and get the blade across. As for height adjustment I cant see how that can ever be anything but heavy given you are picking up the motor.....just the design of the trunnion I guess.

    G,day Terry
Mate thanks for the info and the pic. I bought the Harvey HW110HB-30 in November But I asked Ryan to hold it while I was still building my small workshop. Then in December they rang me and told me they delivering it. I did not want it yet but OK I thought so I organised my son to be here to give the driver a hand.He turned up and got out of his truck and just said that wont fit throught gate and left with the saw. so I waited to hear from them nothing so I rang Ryan last week thinking how bloody big is this thing? anyway Ryan gave me the dimention of the box and I messured my gate opening and there 5.cm to spare on each side. any way they are going to deliver it this week. The info you gave me an idea of what to expect and what the box looks like thanks again
    regards Steve

Mate just assembled mine on the weekend on my own with no drama ( it arrived Friday ). Mate I am not sure but looking at the pics you may have the the mobile base the wrong way round? Your right about the braking system it dont work I put my base the same as you have here in the photo then I turned it around 90 degrees. so when you are cutting any wood your not pushing in the same direction the casters are going to travel. Just a thought
