    Default Holy bucking Broncos Batman...!

I was using the tablesaw yesterday with a dado blade installed and a cradle attached to the mitre slide when all of a sudden the whole thing started jumping around like a rodeo event! I didn't want to let go of the part cut workpiece so I found the big red button with my knee and every thing calmed down pretty quickly. My first thought was that the dado stack had come loose but a quick check showed that one of the drive belts had failed and the second was already partly shredded!
I got 2 replacement belts from from auto cheap and I couldn't believe how much smoother and quieter the saw was after fitting them! Obviously the saw had been trying to tell me but I hadn't been listening.

    Crickey .
Cool under fire as usual Mr Flett. How do the belts get damaged? Just a saw dust thing or are they slightly misaligned.
Or have you been powering the Batjacuzzi with the table saw.
Those were the droids I was looking for.

I guess fair wear and tear comes to mind, they've been on the saw since I bought it 8 (?) years ago. I don't think that the minimal use on my batjacuzzi nor bat winch has damaged it at all BUT I am suspicious that the high braking inertia of a 200mm diameter dado set may well have accelerated the fair wear and tear? The dado set has less R (=radius) than a standard blade but certainly has more M (=mass). As the motor decelerates the blade tries to keep going and this suddenly reverses the load on the belt from being driven by the motor to being stretched by the motor and blade decelerating in opposite directions?
Anyway, I've had more than fair use but I will from now on inspect the belts regularly!

    back to the batjacuzzi.....
