Thread: Jacob cS-10K 10inch table saw Trunnion broken

Have some one who knows what they are doing with oxy/ acetylene braze it, if done correctly it will most likely outlast you.

I'll try to upload pictures but basically brackets both ends of the saw have snapped off which hold one of the two long round bars.20210925_160843.jpg

Hi China, I'm not sure brazing these parts are wise. These are stressed parts and brazing parts are not known for their strength. I've spoken to two welders and because it holds the blade they dont want to touch it. They were thinking to MIG weld with high nickel content wire.

So this is a contractor saw, with the motor hanging out the back? I can see two ways you could fix the part you've pictured, but by far the easiest way would be to braze it. It looks like somebody has previously (?) used some epoxy weld bond on it. The other way would involve a bit of 6mm steel plate, a piece of steel pipe, some grub screws and machine screws and a small amount of welding (not of the cast iron). The steel shafts have two primary jobs, to stabilise the connection of the trunnion end plates and to support the weight of the motor. There's very little stress on the broken part you've pictured. The blade mechanism is supported by the connection between the trunnions bolted to the table and the cast trunnion end plates.

You are speaking to wrong welders find one who is involved in maintenance work, if I was I Melbourne I would would do it for you, I am not a welder by trade but have done that type of repair many times on much higher stressed items that that

Thanks guys, I'll try finding someone else as suggested. Yes the motor hangs out the back but looks like a cabinet saw apart from that. It was I that tried to Chem Weld it but failed. It's a 1980s Saw.

Ok, so not far from me, used to drive thru there regularly before lockdowns.
