    Default New JET

Still on the market for the table saw and suddenly "new product"

    http://www.majorwoodworking.com.au/c...roducts_id=495

Any clues, any informations, any reviews (here or overseas) ..... anything. Price is ALARMINGLY good to be missed for the product of such a reputable company.

    What are your thoughts?

Any better options that I haven't heard of. Any advice veeeeeeerrry welcome (excluding TSC 10 HB as she is already inside very narrow 4-5 saws I am after)

    Regards

The only thing that would swing my vote away from it is the left tilt arbor. I do prefer right tilt, but thats probably just because it's what I'm used to. Apart from that it looks like a very good buy.
Have a nice day - Cheers

Looks remarkably similar to a saw that Carbatec sells... I'm sure that is no accident.

Ask if it has a belt drive and what type of motor it has...

    Interesting.

I think this is what is now called a 'hybrid' TS - a cross btwn a contractor and a cabinet/table saw.

btw, Jet make a squillion TS models and it can be hard to be clear about the specs on any individual model. Like, some have cast iron wings and some pressed steel.

Re questions to ask about a unit, see my post on Shedhand's thread on his Leda. (And the bottom line is that Jet stuff comes out of the same factories in China but they have pretty thorough QC).

Re reviews of TSs, the Taunton Fine Woodworking website is worth subbing to IMO (5 USD a month).

I'm in your boat too. But I wonder where the value-add is in a hybrid or table/cabinet saw that costs another 3/400 bucks over a contractor saw from an 'insert badge here' model, all other things equal. Yes, there's worse dust collection in the latter but balancing that there's greater depth of cut.

... so, weigh in great sages of the saw!

[Edit: pity they don't give details like table size and depth of cut. You can try the Jet website in the US but when I did last week it wasn't working too well. I got useful info from Gregory Machinery in Qld., and learned that their freight costs were a third of those quoted by a supplier 40 km away in my own city. Go figure!

Anyway, let me know which way you jump.

I'm leaning toward a Leda table saw from a guy just down the road.]
    Cheers, Ern

I have decided to gamble a 1150 $ and a little beauty is in the shed. Assembly took me a good 4-5 hours but consider 3 "chickens" (1 old chook and 2 younger chicks with 7.5 milions of questions) popping their eyes out - ("look this old man what mountain of junk he paid so much money") If they were at grandma's assembling would be a lot faster.

Main reason I went for this saw was power (1 3/4 HP or 1300W) I was very close to decide for TSC 10 HB but that would require another 5-600$ for another lead to the shed as I have only 1 phase to the house and one lead to the shed of 16A. Power was a big reason for delay about decision but when I finaly put everything on the peace of paper and realised - hey your old bugger, you are just an average weekend warrior and far from profesional woodworker, decission was made.

No regrets. Think realy works nicely. Solid. (Years ago I had a "Messerschmidt" and that was a machine I will never have in my life again.) This one is nice step up from traditional thoughts about contractor saw. Table is realy solid with two cast wings flat as flat can be, beautiful dust extraction, awsome fence (probably the best part of the machine), and what made me realy happy, straight from the box all settings were spot on. Not even minor adjustments were required. Quiet TEFC motor has a nice torque (blade is thin 1,7 mm CMT near new). I haven't tried 2.7mm JET blade that came with machine but this one worked perfectly and that made me happy. I have tried it on radiata pine and Tasmanian oak. She just cuts and she doesn't make any questions - she does the job.

At the end of the day I haven't made mistake. This morning I went again in Hare and forbes and again checked their produsts and Carba tec, as well as Altendorf and Felder but again - this old bugger is just an average weekend warrior, and again - no regrets. I gambled 1150 $ first time in my life and got a good think.

    Onyu Alex great choice.

Now if you talk to those who sell and know the ins and outs of these machines with no bias, they say the best is the Jet contractors (what you got) over the super saw and tsc10b. The later are bigger and more powerfull, but lack the quality and refinement of the contractors in the gutts. Dont shoot me im only the messenger, go talk to those in the know Again good choice

It looks like a good tablesaw to me. Let’s call it the baby supersaw. The fence actually looks a bit better than the supersaw too.

Let us know how it goes Alex.

Helped a mate assemble one of these and was very impressed - especially by how quiet it was. Seems like excellent value. Robust, well designed and finished, no problems at all.

Yeah guys, I've tried today on the piece of 32 mm thick jarrah and she asked me for slower speed but let's be realistic she is just 1 3/4 HP with a single "V" belt not that one from the "super-saw" (although I do not know how "super saw" transfers power and torque to the arbour). By all means she is not a big difference to the super-saw and she is nearly 600$ cheaper (I am not talking about "super saw" with a sliding table).

As I said earlier she is a little beauty built so simple there is nothing to go wrong and I enjoy every moment listening her saying to me one realy nice "whoooooshhhhhhhhhhhh" I do not have any dado set and to be honest do not have any intentions to waste such a big money for the thing that could be done by just an average blade or average blade and a router bit and another 15 minutes or more spent in the shed, so I can't tell you how she would behave under I think a big stress that dado set causes.

Fence,..... that is a story by itself. Rock solid and realy nice slide. She has a two chanels on the top that gives you support for the bolts to fix all sorts of different jigs you have or will have in your life. I still do not have hart to abuse her as she still smells to nice new thing. I was amased with JET's "microglide" fence (I think that's the name) and that copy of Bisemeyer that Carba tec sells anyhow JET has another model ( I forgot the name) but I think this fence (called "pro shop") and whole saw is order by some of the bosses - "Make a good saw and sell it at low price or you lose a job" and I tell you guy was scared and he didn't spare ideas. Saw is good (as long as you do not need big buggers with huge motors of 3 + HP) I would recomend this saw to any weekend warior as myself, and beleive me you would not regret a single dollar you spent. I was thinking about Carbatec contractor saw (copy of Delta contractor) but this one is different. I was thinking about TSC 10 HB but that one is just too big for me. So far so good but as far as I know not too many people ever complained about JET product and that was pivoting point. Now I have to upgrade some other things and already thing about JET product. I might be wrong and if I was, let me know your experiences

    Alex,

Nice pick-up, same as you I've been umming and ahhing about the TSC10HB and other choices but just might go the same way as you. I've asked the company how this thing holds up with a dado blade (such as the Frued 'dial-a-dado') so will be interested in their reply.

Anyone out there have one of these AND use it with a dado set??? Any comments??

    Cheers.

How JPS 10 handles dado blade? As I said earlier I do not know but noone questioned handling dado on the "super saw" which has 1 3/4 HP as well , so....why would you question this one? I do not think that would make a big difference but again I don't have dado set so I don't know how "IT" (is this way better?) would handle task.

I regularly use a dado set on my previous model Jet contractors saw. No problems whatsoever.

My little beauty, the big sister of yours , comes from Europe and she doesn’t take dado blades. Apparently dado is illegally in her country.
