Jet Proshop 10 Owners Comments Please
I am about to upgrade my old contractors saw. I make boxes and am looking at some solid timber furniture I am trying to decide if the Jet Pro Shop 10 will fit the bill or if I need to spend a lot more money and get a Hammer K3 [ The small version ]
Some feedback from some Jet Pro Shop or K3 owners would be a big help

    Thanks Peter

I've had one for several years now and haven't had any problems that were not my own doing Only managed to slow the blade down when doing 45 degree mitres in 40x200mm very aged hardwood, and then it was just a matter of slowing down the feed rate.

I've added a Wixey digital saw fence readout and use an Incra 1000SE mitre gauge & sled from PWS which make some operations a lot more fun & less guess.

I got the Jet about 3 years ago and am happy with it. It handles blue gum and other very hard timber satisfactorily. As many have said, the original blade should be replaced quickly with good quality cross cut and rip blades. Another worthwhile upgrade was to replace the original mitre gauge with an Incra V27, $125 locally or $60 from the US.

As delivered - you take your chances.....

However, I have successfully adjusted the trunnion on the JET saw to get the blade perfectly parallel with the mitre slots. They don't make it easy - a very fiddly job, but can be done. Provided you are prepared to spend some time tweaking, the JET can be set up as accurately as you will ever need.

Other comments; wish I had a sliding table, dust collection on the JET is crap (even if you carefully seal up as many of the holes in the cabinet as you can....), one cast wing on mine wasn't quite flat, fence is good, the saw has (just) enough power - but you may need to use a thin kerf blade to get through some thicker hardwood.

Not sure I'd buy the JET if I had my time again; those GPW saws that a few forumites have purchased look like better bang for your buck IMHO.

THanks everyone [ and Chook ]
I have not used the Wood Forum to ask questions before and am just realising what a powerful tool this is. After reading your comments and recieving some emails from others I realise that Jet Pro Shop will probably not fill my needs. I am really open to advice , I am about to retire love the hobby and will be doing a lot more of it so I want to make the right descision in the selection of my next saw. I thought that if I decribe what I will be mainly using it for and the desirable features of the saw as I see it, some of you woodys may be able to steer me in the right direction. I have a budget of between 1.5 to 2.5 thousand I probably could stretch to buy a Hammer but its well outside the budget

I mainly make jewelery boxes then inlay them with designs using abalone, pearl, and ebony [ pictures like minature jig saws ] its very time consuming but very rewarding [ in the job satisfaction sense , not financialy ! ] I need a saw that
    • Can be set up easily to be very accurate
    • Has an exellent fence
    • Powerful enough to let me graduate to furniture in hardwood
    • Will allow me to quickly set up for very precise mitres [ or other angles ]
    • Has good dust collection
    • Is reasonably quiet
    • Single phase 15amp
    • Will I need a sliding table or will a normal cabinet saw fit the bill ?
I appreciate any advice given , I have recieved some private emails through the forum , how do I reply to them ? I can not see the link ?
