I have the JET mobile base, and the JPT-310 fits onto it with no modification.
I used the engine hoist (with a couple of heavy duty nylon straps) to get the packing case off the ute and onto the floor, then removed all the upper part of the case, and unbolted the machine from the base of the pallet. The final step was placing the nylon straps around the infeed and outfeed tables, lift the machine up with the engine hoist just enough to clear the pallet base out of the way, slide in the mobile base, and lower the machine on.
Obviously, adjust the mobile base to the correct size first......it isn't a good idea to leave the machine dangling while you stuff around getting the base to fit !

which jet base do you have, I've got the heavy rated based which is the 708119 I think?
which has this dimension size:from 610mm x 610mm to 860mm x 860mmLast edited by spartan; 21st October 2011 at 10:20 PM. Reason: added detail

spartan - I'm not sure what model of JET base I have, but I took a photo of it this morning (see attached).
Size is adjustable by moving the shiny rails in and out of the corner pieces. I checked the dimensions, and measured to the inside of the base metalwork mine is 560mm wide x 510mm deep to give a snug fit on the base of the JPT-310. That sounds like your problem, as the base you describe can't go that small.
Obviously, if its the same basic design as mine, I assume you could cut the bars shorter to get the required adjustment range.

thanks very much for that...looks like I will have to cut it down, which I guess is OK. Its the larger one which has a high weight capacity to I guess that will make it bit more stable in the end.

spartan - if it isn't too much trouble, would you be able to post a picture of the cutterhead on your HH machine?
I'm trying to find out if the JET head has true helical cutters like a Shellix, or a pseudo helical cutterhead like Carbatec are offering. Still considering whether to buy a cutterhead from JET and upgrade my machine...
Cheers

I just have visions of you turning on the new machine......and all the lights in your street dimming slightly....
According to JET the HH version of the machine has a slightly slower feed than the standard one (a good thing IMHO), and the standard cutterhead single-phase JPT-310 doesn't have enough grunt to allow a retrofit upgrade to HH. I've been told that this isn't the case with the 3-phase standard cutterhead machine which I have, so a HH upgrade may be possible for me (finance minister permitting).
Looking forward to hearing how you go with your new toy

Lignum - it was JET head office in Brisbane, i.e. Col Peachy himself. Twice. Once at the Canberra WWW show and once more on the phone. Apparently JET Australia still have a couple of the HH heads lying around that they brought in for testing purposes, and I was going to make him an offer on one.
He told me that the delay in introducing the HH version here was that they did some testing on local timbers, and found that with the standard feed rate there was a chance of overloading the machine. I always thought that a helical head would require less power to cut due to the shearing orientation of the cutters, but apparently this isn't the case. For this reason they slowed the feed slightly to reduce the load.
He also said that the extra grunt of the 3ph machine meant it could probably take the HH cutterhead as an upgrade, but they hadn't tested this and wouldn't guarantee it.
In actual fact I wish the standard JPT-310 had 2 feed speeds, as I'd willingly put up with a slower feed on the final cut to get better surface finish. Of course this shouldn't be an issue with the HH version, which was announced about 6 months after I bought mine.....

I wonder how long these machines sit around before they are actually sold?
The only things I know about my machine at this stage are the things printed on various labels on the outside of the box.
It look like it was built sometime in 2010....

You'll find a photo on the Gregory Machinery site here.
Whether it's a real or simulated spiral head I have no idea or any worry about it. It cuts beautifully.Brian
