    Default making laminates on TS

When making cutting laminates from a thick piece of timber, is it better to make the cut in one pass; set the blade at maximum height and push, say 70mm thick wood through. Or is it better to do it in two passes, flipping the board over for the second cut.
Which method is kinder to the blade? I'm concerned that when making an incomplete cut, the blade is not allowed to cool as it would if it were exposed. But on the other hand, when making the full 70mm cut in one go, more wood and more stress is put on the blade (and saw).
So what do you guys think?

Depends on the saw if its got enough HP(about2~3hp) to do a 70mm deep ripping cut.

70mm is the way to go.
If you try cutting from both sides there is a possibility of slight misalignments of both cuts giving you steps in the veneer surface.

However try cutting some scrap or cheap timber first and see how you go.

I agree, if the saw is capable of doing the 70mm cut, go for it. Perfect cut.
    Reality is no background music.

What blades do you guys use for a ripping cut- especially brand, teeth number, kerf, etc. What sort of finish you get on the cut face?

I use 40 tooth elcheapo blades from supercheap autos as I sometimes use recycled timber so if I hit a nail I just throw the blade away.

I cut runs of <2mm strips with a very clean finish needing very minimal sanding.
