    Looking for table saw

    Hey, Hey.
I have been looking for a new or used (preferably new) table saw in Sydney area. I have tried Hare and Forbes, and Carbatec but either the quality or price isn't right. Major Woodworking Equipment have a beautiful Jet table saw for $1250 - perfect, but not for a few months. Is there anywhere else I could buy a Jet or equal for that price?
    Cheerio,

Try the auctions; Gray's, Lawson Menzies (although I think that may be just wine... hic) and others that can be found in Saturday's SMH.

Have a really good lokk at them first but you can get some bargains.

    Caveat emptor....

http://www.graysonline.com.au and http://www.mgsauction.com.au are the main ones in Sydney - but I don't like your chances. I've yet to see either of them carry a saw in that range.

Take a look at the Jet range at http://www.gregmach.com - they have a 10" belt drive contractor saw for $1354. They have a cheaper model, but it's direct drive (not a good idea IMHO). If you can stretch to it, go for a cabinet saw. Major Woodworking Machinery should match the prices from Gregory Machinery if you ask - they are part of the same buying group.

Good luck with it - and welcome to the board

if you aren't in a hurry the word is there is a bunch of new product waiting for the new carbatec catalogue.

on the matter of auctions & saw benches. you have to be real lucky to see one go for a reasonable price most i've see go up are bid on heavily and go for more than they should.

trading post & clasifieds are a better bet.

    cheers

    WoodWad,
I guess that I'm in the same boat as you. Originally I was all ready to purchase a Jet contractor saw until I found out that MWE didn't have any in stock. They were prepared to sell me a second hand version of what they called a cabinet saw but from what I could see it was just the contractors saw with an enclosed motor. This saw also had had some mixed reviews on the web.

Jet now have out their SuperSaw which I have seen at MWE. This looks like a very nice saw with cast iron tables, a sliding table, a much better fence and better (safer)guard/riving knife set-up, and also with an enclosed motor. Unfortunately it also retails for around $2100.

The thing I decided is that a table saw is something I definitely only want to buy once, so I figure I'll wait until the WWW show in June when some deals should be available.

    Just my $0.02 FWIW.

    Cheers
    Craig
