Default Lubricating worm gear in TS

I have read in a few places in this forum and others that dust on the raising / lowering winding shaft and other drive shafts, and the worm gear, have a habit of seizing up after a short while because the lubricating oil on them collects the sawdust.

Would it be feasible to clean all the existing lubricant off and use something a dry silicon spray lubricants such as Selleys Ezy Glide on these moving parts to prevent this?

    regards,
    Jill

    HI JillB

Yes sawdust will build-up on any wet lubricant.
I have had very good results with `CRC Dry Glide`,it is more than twice the price of the Selley`s product, but IMHO it outperforms many times.
ie; it appears to be more slippery and stays that way for a long time (Selley`s (in my experience)needs to be applied almost every time you use the equipment).

Another alternative is to use graphite powder - cheap and effective and dry (also keeps silicon away from wood which has to be a good thing for your finishing)

Don't tell the Boss, but I've used Traditional wax on mine.
