Makita 2708 Spares
Hi All,
I am after some spares for a S/H Makita 2708 tablesaw I purchased, specifically the blade guard and riving knife. Can anyone suggest where I can get one here in Australia? Given it needs a new blade as well, I suspect the costs may be adding up and it will almost worthwhile getting a new T/S
Thanks, Paul

I bought an old one of these recently. See the pic in my recent thread. My blade guard is different to the common one. A very simple box cover. Looks factory made. I will almost never use it. There is a separate riving knife. In the parts drawing it looks like the normal blade guard is hinged on a thin plate that functions as a riving knife.
A riving knife should be easy to make from an old blade. My guess is to make the thickness equal to the tooth width you use most, not less than. Wisdom on that issue may drop in with advice. Height slightly lower than the blade. If the steel is too hard to drill you could grind two slots instead. Here's a pic of the riving knife on mine...
