Default Metabo TS-250 + CMT Dado set

    Hey everyone,

my table saw is a Metabo TS250 contractor saw. I am looking at installing a set of dado blades found here on carbatech

    CMT 6" and 8" Dado Blades : CARBA-TEC

im going to install this blade stack as i know the motor on the TS250 can handle them. My issue is clearance under the table as the housing that surrounds the blade is used for dust extraction. I want to remove the housing and modify it so i can still get the dust extraction functionality (albiet its effectiveness reduced ) along with the dado set installed.

I wanted to know when purchasing these blades is there a set of requirements that i should have before purchasing aside from size of motor? the Metabo has a 2000w motor. Is it not a good idea to install a dado set in a contractor saw? has anyone else achieved this? Im also going to make a new zero clearance inset for the dado set too.

thanks in advance to any info on this

I'm not familiar with your saw but the arbor needs to be able to accept a dado. Mine has around 3/4" of extra thread so a dado can be mounted. For some saws that won't take a dado you can get either a replacement arbor or an arbor extension. A bit hard to tell but it looks like you only have around 1/4" of spare thread.
Those were the droids I was looking for.

so shortly after i wrote the original post i went out to the in-laws for dinner. The father in law suprised me by giving me one of his old router tables complete with router and fence etc everything i need to get up and running except the bits. So i may go down the path with the router for dados than my table saw.

May look at dado blades down the track with my next upgrade to a panel saw

    Thumbs up

As far as I'm concerned the router is a far better option.

Hmm your not the first to say that, it seems to me that americans enjoy using dado blade sets more than we do. When looking around online and speaking with family everyone has asked why i havent invested in a router instead of modifying my table saw.

Think i will stick with the router on this one. Thanks artme
