Default Metabo TS254 & Dewalt 744- Dado blades

    Hi Guys

I have my search down to two table saws- metabo TS254 and Dewalt 744. Just curious as to how you know if a saw can take a dado blade?

Trying to figure out if the metabo can take one?

    Hey there,

I have the metabo ts 250 contractors table saw that I will be selling soon. The saw is a little ripper and is great for its size but not for dados. The arbor length is too short and there arent any extension s avsilable. So ill be selling my table saw and my cmt dado stack shortly ( not because of the lack of dado support but due to an upgrade)

    Hope that helps

Thanks Delbs... What are you upgrading too. When you say its not great for Dados.. its not good or its totally impossible? Went ahead and got the saw anyway, seems as though all portable saws aren't great for dados

Well it would be possibile if you can get an arbor extension made. I doubt it would cost much to get one made from a metal fabrication place. If you had a 6" dado stack as opposed to a 8" im sure you could do multiple passes to get your end result.

I will be upgrading to a hammer combination machine . Hasnt happen yet. In a week or so

Hi there, I'm finally thinking of updating from my Triton WorkCentre. I find I am trying to rip wide timber into slice of say about 13mm thick, can't rip wider than about 50mm, flip it over, gives me about 100mm (in width). Plus my Triton never gives me a nice 90 degree cut, always has "bellies" in the centre of the cut when I flip the timber over. Then it takes me forever to sand them out. Looking here the Metabo TS254 looks nice. Has anyone got this and what is your comments. I also want something I can move within my shed. When I drive the car out, I pull the WorkCentre over the the middle of my shed to work on. Then pull it back. Happy for comments please, Regards, Paul

    Hi,

I originally posted this and ended up taking the plunge and getting the 254.
Look, its a great saw for a site saw. Fence is pretty decent, nice amount of power and a good size table extenion. I currently rent so I had to get a portable saw. But for about $300 more you can look at some nice little carbatec contractors saws or H&F Hafco. I would of loved one, probably could stretch the budget but its 100kg. So first things first, try and save a little longer and grab a nice one.

If you still want a site saw, it seems the dewalt and metabo are (from my research) market leaders.

Only problem I am having with my saw ( which is exactly what I am about to post about), is the fact its european, the bore diameter of 30 mm is a little harder to get replacement blades particularly at the stock kerf (2.4mm???). Otherwise. I love it!

    Good luck

    Hi,
Your original question related to its ability to install a dado blade. Can it take a dado blade?

    Thanks, Phillip

Use of dados is somewhat restricted/illegal through Europe so that's why the metabo and bosch saws won't take a dado stack. The metabo is also a right tilt blade.

The new dewalt jobsite saw is left tilt and will take a dado stack, but with the optional stand (metabo has inbuilt stand) it is a few hundred dollars more.
