    Default Mini Max Lab30 Shaper/Moulder Head knives/blades

    Hi

I have a Mini Max Lab30 Combo purchased new in 1997 and am endeavouring to purchase rail and stile profile safety knives and chip limiters to suit the Freud moulder head. I have tried Gabbett and Major Woodworking Equipment with no success. A local saw/tooler Auswide Austech quoted around $160 just to produce 2 Knives, provided I supply old blades or wood with the profile so they can make a template, but as I dont have the blades I am unable to do so, also I have seen similar off the shelf type knives advertised for $30 -$40 and feel the Auswide price a bit excessive.
In the past I have used the moulder for tongue and groove only, but now I am embarking on a project to make new pine timber raised panel cabinets for our kitchen and lounge.
I have attached photo of 96x40x30 Freud 1547 moulder head and safety knives/chip limiters.
Also I am interested in locating suitable raised panel knives.

I would be greatly pleased if anyone is able to help me with a supplier

The cutters look very similar to the CMT shaper cutters carbatec supply, have you checked to see if they fit?

They are a universal type cutter head, CMT, IVA and others will fit eg; https://www.machineryhouse.com.au/Pr...stockCode=W647 , spindle moulder cutters | eBay UKI ordered some through tool specialists in Newcastle several years ago and would think most tool shops or saw doctors will be able to order for you if they could be bothered. Gabbett!
Originally purchased the cutter head from Henry Bros in Sydney, so they also may be worth a try.

Freud have the 2000 rail/stile and panel raising kits that are better suited to kitchen cabinets, but $$$$$'s.

You can buy CMT knives and limiters seperately from Carbatec.
    Price is not too bad
I use them on my Lab30 with good results.

Thanks Joez , Bradford & Stringy. I will try CMT out and let you know how I go. I purchased gear from Carbatec years ago so should have no trouble there.

    Hi Bradford

I tried CMT Carbatec but rail & stile knives appear as 40mm profile and as I will be using 21-25mm wood it seems the CMT are not suitable. I find it frustrating that CMT have only 2 r&s profiles (cat. 690-098 etc) that are really only suitable for large doors (40mm stock), not kitchen cabinets. Have you tried these knives with 25mm material?? Also do you use the CMT raised panel knives as I was trying to find out the depth of panel cut.
Carbatec advised panel knife would only cut to about 15mm.

Unable to locate IVA knives, do you know of the distributors??? Your right, Freud r&s panel set are many $$$$. I Could replace my (blown up) router in router table with a new router & bits for that amount. I found Amana r&s and panel cutters on the Amazon website, any reports on this product??

$160 is not a bad price to make a "one off" set of cutters and limiters.

could try timber tools in melbourne or Dimar Tools Australia on the central coast.

best option if you want to spend around the $50 is to buy from US there is heaps of suppilers of insert tooling.

    Hi shedfriend

I have only used the r&s knives for doors, 38mm. They don't look like they would be much good under 25mm.
Sorry don't have the panel raising knife, but looking at the graphic I can't see why they wouldn't go down to about 8mm.
    Regards
    Bradford
