Thread: My first mitre saw ever!

You have a nice piece of machinery there.
Don't get too wrapped up in Today's "safety" issues.
Use common sense.
Keep your fingers out of the blade path.
Stand slightly to the side of your machine. (Whatever it is in the future)
I have used everything from tractor powered saw benches to thicknessers powered by old corolla engines.
I still have all fingers thumbs toes etc.
Safety is a`state of mind.

That's a fantastic saw you have there ank. The sliding action is just so smooth and the fact that you can butt it up against a wall and still use it is great if you have a small work area. I have a Makita and it is annoying that I need to pull it out from the wall for any little cut because of the twin rails that need to protrude out the back. It's a great invention Bosch have come up with.
As Paul has said, use common sense by not putting fingers in places where they can be hit if something goes amiss. Always make sure your wood is against the fence and sitting flat on the table. If you have a piece of wood which has a bow, make sure you put the convex side either to the fence or the table. Putting it the other way can jamb the blade in the kerf as it starts to cut through and the wood collapses inwards.

Thanks for the replies! I had an extremely stressing year and I'm taking some time off to start woodworking. I just ripped my first piece of wood and joined it edge to edge to another with PVA glue. Here I'm using cheapo warped 90cm long 2x4 from Bunnings - makes no sense to use better quality wood when you are just learning

That a boy ank, having a go is the best way to learn providing you think about it first to ensure you are doing it safely.
