Question Mobile wheel base - alignment preference and height adjustment

    Greetings,

I'll be putting together my new toy - a Harvey 110 - early in the new year. (Much rejoicing, etc etc : )

I've three questions around the mobile wheel unit (the MB 600 Universal Mobile Base).

    1. Orientation -- the manual helpfully says 'Determine on which side of the machine youwant the swivel casters.'

Based on my years of frustrating experiences with a Triton that has two wheels at the back whether you like that or not, I've precisely zero idea what's the most workable arrangement here.

I saw a comment in another thread from someone saying 'It looks like you've got the wheels around the wrong way', but it wasn't clear what way that was, or what way the right way was.

Because of the table overhang, I don't expect the problem is bumping your feet on the adjustable / swivel wheel side while working? I'm guessing more of a 'most people usually end up moving the table between these two orientations' and/or 'it's easier to grab these edges of the table to move it around'

Is there a recommended, or better yet any strongly discouraged, orientation?

    2. Height - evidently this kit can take up to 38mm of ply - they recommend at least 19mm, and I don't think you get much extra strength from more ply, but I am interested in a higher table surface. I noted someone had a picture showing about 880mm with the standard wheel base. I'm wondering if it's feasible to put more ply on top of the base metal corners to lift it up a bit more? I don't think stability would be impacted much, right?

I'm 188cm (6'2") and most benches and tables feel like they're way too low. Has anyone done this kind of adjusting?

    3. Floor tolerance -- for the next 12 months I'm stuck in a small-ish area (4x4m) in a shed with a fairly rough concrete floor (after that, I'll be in a Good & Proper Shed, fingers crossed).

These small nylon wheels look like they'd be fine - but I'm wondering if I should be putting down some large sheets of ply, or if that would actually be worse? I contemplating doing some self-levelling high-MPA mix over the top, but it's expensive (for a short-term problem) and then leaves the bother of sharp lips at various places in that shed.

I have a Carbatec 250mm Cabinet Saw on a Heavy Duty Bora Adjustable Mobile Base. I put my swivel wheels on the back (outfeed). Its been like that since I bought it last year and never had an issue. I guess it all depends on your work space.

just put 4 cheapish swivel castors (with brakes) under a sheet of ply. this will raise it up, and if they're decent rubber will be easier to push over the lumps and bumps in the concrete. I did this under my sawstop. having all swivels lets you just drag it left, right foward and back with out having to swing it around first.

the wood isn't bowed/warped... its just the curviture of the panorama picture (as seen in the shelfs near the roof)

if you don't like it get a proper mobile base when you get your proper shed.

Thanks EagerBeaver, Havabeer -- I bought the mobile base from Harvey, but it was only about $200, so I'm happy to put that aside I guess and built a custom rubber-castor option. I like the idea of something a bit more resilient to small stones and woodchips than the micro-wheels on the OEM base. Another trip to the big ol' Bunnings is in order I guess.
