Default Small mod to K3 crosscut fence

I suspect that most here with Hammer K3 sliders have an outrigger with the crosscut fence at the farther end of the slider. This mod is for the K3s with the shorter sliders, such as mine, which is 49", which have the crosscut fence at the start of the slider.

The problem I have with this crosscut fence is that it cannot be aligned with the edge of the saw blade ala a zero clearance. If a sacrificial board is attached to the front of the fence, the fence loses its ability to be set to the angle scale.

Some of you may have worked out a better method, but this is what I did today (while the glue dried on my current project - what do you do while the glue dries?) ...

The inside of the crosscut fence ..

    A chunk of UHMW ...

    This ...

    ... inserts into ...

... creating this zero clearance section ...

Derek, where did you get the UHMW from?
Is the insert made from the same material, and if so, how is it holding up?

Bern, my local salvage yard had quite a lot of it, some in long rectangular sections, which was used on the K3, and some 2" thick panels, one of which became the table for my drill press.

The insert came from Felder for the K3. It is intended as a dado insert. I used it as a basis and modified it somewhat.

Happy to post pictures, if you want.

Derek, does that hit the knob on the blade guard? I tried something like this and I am sure it hit the knob and I haven't gotten back to it since. If that was not the reason then it was something else and old age prevents me from recalling the problem.

Just looked at the earlier photos on the thread. The accessories have since been updated. Here are the updates.

    1. The zero clearance was reduced in height to allow the blade and guard to be lowered:

    2. A mitre version was also made:

    3. Added a clamp:

There are a bunch of other fixtures for the K3. I suspect that I need to start a new thread for them
