Mystery Saw Bench
G'day to one and all.
I was lucky enough to be given a saw bench/rip saw by a good friend and my goal is to restore it to original condition. However I do not have a manual on it and it seems the closest I can get to a model is a name plate which has "McPherson's". There is no other form of identification on it at all. It has a 400mm blade in it currently and is driven by a 3 phase motor. The saw came out of a hardware store in a country town in Victoria Australia where it was replaced because the dust extraction was not efficient enough for Worksafe (Government regulation body). My friend purchased it in auction from there and had used it for some years.
I have a picture of a machine which is the closest I can find Macson-three-phase-rip-saw_46663492.jpg
I am wanting to try and find a manual for it. There are some parts that have seized ie: blade height adjustment and fence slide (fine adjust works well). It is a beautifully built machine and I would like to not only get it working but restore it and make a base with wheels so I am able to move it to the side of my workshop.
Any help would be fantastic.
Cheers
Stew

McPherson was a Australian manufacture who made items (metal & woodwork ) they were also a retailer of other quality brands, as It has has McPherson cast into the door it would be one of their items, they are long gone, and I would be very surprised if you can find a manual, it is a saw bench it is not complicated, I would anticipate you will get along fine without a manual.

I am sure that restoring this "old" saw will be a satisfying exercise and one that will give you good performance for the long years ahead. Could I suggest that you fit a 300mm blade of your choosing (fine blade for cutting sheet goods etc) I think that you would have more of a selection of suitable blades. I would use the 400mm one mainly for ripping down bigger stock. I have a SCM Panel saw which will take a 400mm blade but I use 300mm of fine teeth. I do use a 350mm blade to rip down thick stuff but the noise of it whirring around makes you very wary and tend to make me a little nervous. (Just a note from my "history" experience). The SCM has a 5.5Hp motor which very well copes with anything I am cutting
Enjoy the adventure that awaits in restoringJust do it!
Kind regards Rod
