Default Is it ok to have to hammer in a blade bushing?

Got a CMT blade (30mm arbor) for my TS (5/8” arbor). Got the corresponding bushing (carbatec branded one as all the CMT ones were out of stock) but it won’t go in by hand. I could lay it on a flat surface and give it a careful hit with the hammer but not sure it should require that? Might damage the blade?

I used a bushing on my mitre saw blade and remember that fit very snugly but didn’t require more than hand force to get in place.

Should I use the hammer? Or let it seat properly when I tighten it up on the TS? Or get a replacement?

    Cheers

I would first check to see if there's a burr on the 30mm hole in the blade. If there is, remove it with a jeweller's file or a piece emery on a stick of dowel. Then place a block of wood on the bushing and try tapping it in.

The Carba-tec bushes have serrated edges; they are designed to be a slight interference fit so you will need to gently tap them in.

To add to Jack's advice ensure the center section of the blade is fully supported; use HARDWOOD not softwood and it needs to be FLAT. Push the bushing into the blade by hand as far as you can; make it as square as a very square thing then gently tap it home. Either a soft faced hammer or use another piece of hardwood as a drift.
Nothing succeeds like a budgie without a beak.

Thanks for the answer. Yep I noticed the serrated edges and wondered about them.

I’ll use the hardwood trick and give it a go.
