    Default Osborne Mitre Gauge

    I've recently bought a new Osborne EB3 Mitre Gauge for my TSC-10HB saw and a few weeks down the track it seems like a ripper of a tool.

    It came from the US about a week after ordering directly via an exchange of emails with Dave Osborne - who was very helpful. I just emailed for purchasing info from their website http://www.shop.osbornemfg.com/main.sc

    The gauge was 100% accurate out of the box as far as I can measure it, and is a great design. Changing angles is easy & test mitres and square cuts are super easy and the handle keeps your hand away from the blade. I've used the extension of the crossbar a couple of times to crosscut longer boards and it really works well as does the flip-up stop. The fit of the bar in the table slot is micro adjustable by using an allen key on the three grub screws that widen bar slightly if necessary. Setup and checking took about 30 min. The bar also has a low friction tape on the bottom side that's easy to apply and seems to work well.

    While a significant factor in the choice was price ($186 direct from the US compared to the Kreg from Carbatec at $299) the build quality and accuracy of the Osborne seems great. Good enough for Norm, good enough for me!

    looks very good how easy is to change the cut from say 90* to 45*. is the bar steel
    I bought a Krieg and the sliding bar is aluminum and it tries to bend when it isn't all the way in the slot, also the brass pin that positions the angle falls out when the jig is put away. not happy

    The guide bar is steel with a removable t-slot washer on the front, and the fence is a fancy box section aluminium which seems very strong. I think the bar is purchasable separately via their website to make your own jigs etc.

    The end of the fence telescopes out to about 42"/1050mm

    To change the fence angle you loosen the wingnut and slide the fence to the desired angle while depressing a plunger button underneath the red part of the brace into a preset hole then tighten the wingnut and release the button. There are a bunch of preset holes to lock the fence to the commonly used angles or you can lock it off at any other angle you want. I've attached a few more pics to show the details

    Osborne don't have a distributor in Aus but were happy to take and dispatch an order via email. They suggested that as a security precaution the order, credit card number and expiry details be sent in three separate emails which I did and all has turned out fine. Postage is a killer so if you know anyone going to the US or Canada they are easy to pick up there. I first saw this fence on a visit to Canada last year and was kicking myself I didn't buy one then. All worked out well though.

    I tried to register at the checkout on their site but the state and postcode is for the USA. I have sent them an email to find out how to get around this. They accept PayPal which I use where ever possible. Let you know the outcome

    resurrecting this post, I just got an email from Woodcraft that the Osborne miter gauge is on special for $99 until 25 June.
    I bought recently from Woodcraft and they are fairly expensive with freight (Fedex), I note the price is the same atthe Osborne site, I will see what they want for freight

    whether you buy through Woodcraft or direct from Osborne it costs about USD60-70 to send to Aust by Fedex
    I am going to buy one direct from David Osborne

    I have just ordered my EB3 mitre gauge for US$152.15 including freight while it is on special for $99, so basically it means I am getting it at the normal US price.
