Planer Blades
Hi Everyone,
I recently aquired a combination table saw and planer ( one of the neighbors was putting it out on hard rubbish!) and while being a little old, overall the who setup is in quite good nick. The table saw component is fine but the blades on the planer have some large chips (see attached picture). I guess it was run over a nail or something hard at some stage. So some questions for the brain trust, are these blades sharpenable or are they too far gone? Will it be cost efective to get them sharpened or am I better off replacing them (I dont want to do it myself as I have never done it).

They should sharpen ok but see here:
HSS Thicknesser & Jointer Blades : CARBA-TEC
For 6 inch blades (guessing) probably not worth paying to get them sharpened.

Most saw doctors can regrind them with specialist machinery. My local in Croydon did a set of 3 6 inch blades for me for $15. They can generally supply/obtain new blanks and grind them if the originals are too badly damaged to regrind. e.g. deep chips that would compromise clamping in the cutter head if ground out.

Ace Saw Services are pretty reasonable for price and they can sharpen and supply cutters and blades for pretty much anything.

Thanks very much to everyone for their replies. I will try a saw sharpener first to see if they can clean them up. I also note that they are only a 4 inch blade not 6 inches so if I do need to replace them I not Carbatec dont have them.

Have a look at this looks easy to use and you only need sandpaper.
