Saw Plate / Tooth failure.
It really pays to check the condition of your saw blades before fitting to the table saw, routinely when in use, and especially if you notice a change in noise, performance etc.
I recently purchased a high tooth count saw blade (name with held until I get a response from the manufacturer) so that I would have a ultra sharp new blade to cut the small components required for my inlay banding block construction. After less that 20 minutes use I observed a "change" in noise, even whilst wearing 3M Peltor hearing protection.
Stopped the saw, unplugged the power lead, then inspected the blade. there is a complete tooth missing! Next tooth has half the carbide tip missing and no other damage to any (other) teeth?? What tha??? Hang on, I've fitted the "old" identical blade!
There is definitely no possible way that there is a foreign object strike involved, its all "virgin" wood or laminated from strips less than 3 mm thick, and the assemblies all less than 8 mm thick. The saw blade is only used to cut banding components, inspected, then fitted to the saw arbour (Woodfast TS 250). No evidence of physical damage, all teeth were present and accounted for! These blades are very well protected and kept in the original packaging, so highly unlikely to have suffered physical damage in my care.
Please note the "resin" is actually gum from masking tape used to "secure" bundles of thin veneers for cutting.
Somewhat of a mystery why a tooth disappeared in those circumstances. As I say no names (yet ) until I hear from the manufacturer!
I'm very thankful that I am very safety conscious and use custom blade guards on my TS sleds. The MIA tooth is yet to be located!

I'm sure we've all seen missing/damaged carbide tips on saw blades, but a whole tooth from the steel blade body .
