The one I got never was on their website. They are pretty hopeless with all that. 99% of their business is walk in tradies so they don't do web very well at all. You'll just have to call them. Even then it's 50/50 if you'll get a sensible answer. If I get time I'll swing over and check things out, but it's a goo 1/2 hour drive from work so...

Well as I've been busy, I just sent an email a week ago - of course no reply. Didn't really expect one, but you have to give it the old college try. I'd rather just walk in & see for myself, just not something I can do without a week's planning, as Cooper Plains is probably the closest, and that's a 90 minute drive.

    Hi all

Major Woodworking, Woodworking Warehouse & other members of the Woodman Group are selling this saw for circa $2100, we used one for a demo at last years WWWShow and it looked the part. I liked the ability to use 10" or 12" blades as well as dado sets.

I'm looking at one for my own workshop when time allows me to get back in there.

    Regards

    Grahame

Well I gave them a call, and they said their computer was telling them all table saws were out of stock in all stores, so he went and checked the floor, and there was an $898 10" saw with router table wing - sounds like the same one. This wasn't the Coopers Plains store though. Guess I'm just going to have to go look myself.

I've been trying to read through all the old comparison threads, and it appears anything less than about $2000 seems to have a the common problem of a crappy fence, and the only other real difference I could see people arguing about what the placement of the motor, which impacted dust being thrown around. Not a real problem for me, as I do so much hard sanding without dust extraction that my shed is like living in a sandstorm anyway (yeah yeah I know, bye bye lungs).

So given this thing is around $900, and Carbatec have the MJ2325B for $1000 (on special it seems - normally $1349), is there any clear distinction between these two, that would justify the extra $100?

    Russell.

PS - Guess we throw the Jet Economy 10" saw from GPW at $925 in there too.

Trade Tools at Eagle Farm have the same one as I have on the floor with a price of $899. The floor model looks like it has been there a while and has a broken power switch so you should be able to do a deal with them.
The sign says 10 inch but it is definately a 12 inch blade.

    Cheers,
    Russ

I think it was them I spoke too - called the Internet enquiries line, and he said Kingsford Smith drive. Broken power switch though???

It'll probably be Friday before I can get into Brissy to look, so hopefully it's not a "last one left" thingie like the drillpress I didn't buy today...

I was told by the bloke in TTD that it was a 10" and Russ kindly corrected me.

The cheapest alternative for a broken switch I've seen is the one at timbecon for as I recall $35.

The fence was never an issue for me as I always intended to replace it, however the router fence is fine if all you do is edgework.

That one at carbatec appears to be quite similar to mine, except the base is enclosed sheet steel instead of open legs on mine.It seems to have the same rip fence and splitter, except the fence has micro adjust. It has 2 iron wings while the TTD has one pressed steel and one iron router extension. Mine is 2 hp theirs is 3 and 15 amp.

I was in carbatec last monday looking at the saws they had. $899 is a big jump up from what I paid. I don't know. I suppose it depends on your criteria/priorities. Personally the extra cutting depth on mine is important to me, as well as the space saving having the router on the same structure. I don't know.

I don't know anything about the other one you mentioned. It has steel extension wings. None of the other so called features matter, they are either the same or spin. I would want to handle that fence and see how it feels.

    Urgh this is confusing.

I need to swing by Coopers Plains this afternoon to pick up my drillpress from Hare & Forbes. So I called the CP TTD store and asked what tablesawas they have under $1,000. He says a 12" 2 hp with router table for - oh no wait, that's $1,398 and sorry we have nothing less than that except for a cheap plastic hitachi.

Right, so I call the Springwood store, and they say they have the $898 12m10 model, which has the router table wing. They only have a display one, but all of the other stores have them in stock - err, what the?? That guy also said I could see it on the web page, which they've recently updated. I informed him the only one on the web site is over $2,000, which he seemed confused about.

    *sigh*

I'll go look in the CP store this afternoon, since I'm going past, and hope the guy didn't know what he was talking about. I'ms till wondering though, how much better/worse this is to the similar Carbatec one on special for $995, and I found a Jet Economy tablesaw, which I haven't seen mentioned on this forum before, at GPW, for $925, but they also have a 5% - 20% off sale for the next few days, so not sure what it might go down to. It seems the table is fairly small on that one though and only 1.5hp. I assume that's not the Jet model most other people are comparing to these similar class saws.

    Any other thoughts?

Well as I said above there is $95 in the TTD vs carbatec and the pros/cons of each are listed above.

Personally I think those two options are better than the Jet one listed above for $925.

The big issue with the carbatec is you will need a 15 amp socket, whereas the TTD is only 2 hp and runs happily on a 10 amp one.

Be aware I rewired the safety switch on mine, or more precisely I had an electrician friend do it. Std mine had an iec socket on one side and a 15 amp on the other, it now has 10 amp plug and socket. I simply got a computer cable to connect the motor outlet to the safety switch. This way I cna plug my router into the safety switch and use that to stop the router. Both convenient and safer.

I would assume the jet would come wiht a 10 amp plug.

So if you want plug and play the jet will be easiest.

If you want depth of cut and a router table wing the TTD is the go.

If you want cast iron both sides, micro adjust on the fence and 3 hp the carbatec is the go.

And just to really confuse you H&F have some contenders in that price range also.

My saw is the 12m10. Maybe it would help asking the person on the phone for that part number ?

Thanks. Yeah I did see you comments above, the question was more about the Jet. It is the 12m10 the Springwood guy quoted,w as just a little confused with the 10"/12" differences the TTD guys were saying.

H&F have that $990 model, which I assumed was pretty much the same as the Carbatec one.

Might try Coopers Plains again, see if I get a different guy with a different opinion on whether they have it or not

    Ok well the plot thickens.

TTD at Coopers DO have a display model in stock, of the 12m10. They also have stock of the 12m10A, which is the 12" model the the 12m10, and it's the one that is $1,398.

So, I can't too & fro forever, $1400 is out of my range, and as I need to chuck it in the back on my X-trail, the helpful gentleman I got this time is trying to get a 12m10 in a box, up from Bundall today for me.

Hopefully it'll arrive in time, I'll spend more money than I have anyway, but finally end up with a useful tablesaw, and then just have to tweak bits & pieces to get it working to the level I require.

Now just to try and explain the purchase to SWMBO.

    Hi Boomerang
There are really two styles of the 10" and I assume the 12" model. Both have the same guts I believe but one is a contractors saw and the other a cabinet saw with router table. This thread has had people talking about both. You have come across the cabinet saw for $1349 (see attached picture).

Hope this helps explain the price variations between members quoting $600 or so and those quoting $1349 etc.

By the way this is a Taiwanese saw and I believe of much better quality than the Chinese ones that are around.

Strictly speaking at 3hp (2250W) the carbatec could run off a standard 10 amp socket. Is there any reason the plug couldn't be legally changed to a 10 amp?
    Cheers.

I think the one he's referring to as the 10a is the cabinet saw, it has a solid cast iron base. There is a pic in the TTD thread if you have a look.

Mine looks like the jet but has a cast iron router extension, bigger motor, different fences etc.

Just remember what I said about the rip fence on mine. I've never put it on but the one in the shop didn't feel wonderful. That could just be a setup issue, and it looks very much like the one on that 995 carbatec saw, just be ready for it not to be wonderful out of the box.

It sort of drags a bit, doesn't glide smoothly along it's tracks. Brisruss uses his, he might be able to advise ?

The normal 12m10 IS a 12" saw. They told me it was 10", but it's not. The blade which comes with it is 12" and it's surprisingly good.

    Anyway good luck!

Edit: Yes you'd think a 3 hp would run off a 10 amp but they always come with a 15 amp, possibly because of the startup current requirement.

12M10 I paid $779 has router extension wing and 12". The dearer one is EXACTLY THE SAME except it's got a heavier base, different rip fence and sliding table. Apparently the trunions and everything are the same (from others comments) it's just the cheapie has a sheet steel box and open base and the dearer one has a solid cast iron base. So your paying $450 for a sliding table (which I don't like anyway) a different rip fence (which may or may not be better) and a big lump of cast iron.

My machine is taiwanese, has all iron trunions, and is dead quiet running. The only real noise it makes is the teeth tearing the wood fibres, otherwise it's just a quiet hum.

As always YMMV, but for my money the dearer saw does not represent as good a value as the cheaper one. 2c.
