Ques for Jet Table Saw Owners
As those following the various Table Saw threads will have seen, I like a couple of others have been doing the usual search for the most appropriate table saw to meet our individual requirements.
I think I've pretty decided on a Jet. I think the clincher for me was when I went to my daughters new school and saw that their wood work room was full of Jet equipment. The teacher their said all of the machines were the bees knees. They were reliable and accurate - and they stood up to the usual interactions with students (kids!).
The questions for me now are which jet saw....
is it the....Super Saw....
<table class="maintext" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="100%"><tbody><tr><td colspan="2" height="20">ET*JWSS-10CSPF-S<o></o></td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="2" height="20">10" Super Saw with Closed Stand and Sliding Table</td></tr></tbody></table>
or the
JTAS 10 - XL - JET 10" Left Tilting Arbor complete with ext table and 50" commercial XACTA II fence....
When the individual saw is chosen what are the 'must have ' accessories for these set ups?
Any comments or observations? There has been lot's said about the super saw but not as much on the JTAS?

I've recently got the Supersaw with the sliding table and closed stand. Found it quite good to get set up out of the crate. After making the necessary adjustments to square things up I am impressed with the ease and accuracy of the cuts. I change my saw blade for rips and cross cuts (as distinct from using an all purpose blade) and find it quick and easy with no further 'adjustments' to make it cut square etc. The fence grips front and rear and seats accurately. The power (1.75 hp) handles jarrah as thick as the saw will cut well as long as you don't try and force the cut too quickly. I have the Euro version that does not take a dado blade - the US version does I understand. It's a solid unit and I've found no fault with it so far - and very happy with the things I've made on it so far - mainly small tables - coffee & side tables - using jarrah, yellow tingle, sheoak, pine and a heavy wattle (not finished yet) the name of which I have forgotten. The table has all of the basic accessories as standard - sliding table, fence, extensions on the rear and RHS. Absolute heaven compared to the triton it replaces!

I echo Rimp's comments as well. I bought the US model Supersaw about 12 months ago. A very accurate saw and a pleasure to use. I've often heard comments about the power being a bit under done but I have no complaints whatsoever.
The only slightly negative aspect is the largely useless blade guard on the US model (which I don't use). It has anti-kickback fingers that would score the hell out of any timber put under it. The Euro model has a more appropriate plastic unit which looks much more functional.
I bought this model to use a dado set. I saw this as giving me a little bit more flexibility. You won't be sorry if you buy one of these saws, they're a fantastic bit of kit and I can't recall hearing anything negative from any forum member who has one.
Cheers,
Keith

OK, I have a quote for the JTAS 10 XL, with 50" Xacta II Fence, 3 HP, Single Phase at $2700.
Looks like a reasonable deal.....\
Anyone got this saw?
I've been dealing through Northwood tools thus far.

Thats a pretty reasonable price for a JTAS10, a 50" fence is nice too.

Yes, I wonder if there is any utility in adding a sliding table to JTAS saw?

Supersaw
I have the Euro version of Supersaw with the sliding table. It's a nice machine, but the sliding table setup is fiddly. Be prepared to spend an hour or two getting it right.
Re power - I've had no trouble cutting amost petrified ironbark at maximum cut. Just feed gently. I'd never said to myself 'I wish I had 3hp'.
The riving knife works well & is easy to fit & remove. The dust extraction from the blade guard doesn't suck up all the dust but it better than nothing.
All-in-all a great bit of gear.

Visited Northwood tools yesterday to discuss the purchase of the JTAS 10XL-1.
I must say that Colin was very helpful, informative, and reasonable. Also thumbs up to Gary Pye http://www.northwoodtools.com.au
Over the last month or so I've been researching table saws I've not found this to be the case with many other sellers of table saws.
The absolute worst by far has been timbercon. Unbelievably arrogant and rude. NO chance of me ever buying anything from them.
They refused to answer a simple question about what differentiates their TS 250 from other like machines to justify the $400 difference. There response was we don't comparisons. Well unfortunately for you Timbercon the consumer does......
When I make the final decision I will post picks of what I end up with....Last edited by spartan; 1st June 2007 at 09:50 AM. Reason: speeling
