    Default question?

Hello wood workers and the like. I've been reading here for a little while now and thought it was time for my first post, so here goes nothing.

I'm wanting to start adding a few big items to the work shop i.e Tsc-10hb, dusty and possibly a thicknesser as I'm a carpenter by trade i have a lot of gear already for work but time to add some serious stuff for play.

Reading through a lot of threads that have been really helpful i thought some of you guys could help me. I'm finding it hard to find what i'm looking for here in Canberra and just can't wait for the wood working show so what did all my fellow Canberrans do....? Up to the big smoke (Sydney) or order from some where else interstate/o.seas without even laying your eyes on the product your buying?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated
    Thanx.

His ACTC, welcome to the nut house.

I read your post a couple of times but can't work out exactly what it is you are asking?

    Cheers

    I looked in Canberra at
    Gasweld.. CT.. Fishers... Combined Electrical..
    I bought my planer... Gasweld
    Thicknesser....Dusty.. Fishers
Bandsaw and Cabinet saw from Carbi-tec Sydney
Canberra at the time didn't have them in stock
You are not far from Sydney CT have a look at their display it is awesome
Best of luck with your choices.
I am an old carpenter / joiner now cabinet maker and I always look at the best of the tools as you do when buying gear to use for work, but in this field the best is out of my budget.

    G'day,

As others have said - web sites are ok but seeing in the flesh is better. I had a look at the Jet reseller on Whyalla St (disappointing) and settled on the tsc10hb from Carbatec - they take a few weeks to get here as there is no warehouse here, but they have one (mostly) set up in the display room.

I bought my drill press from some place in Adelaide and my bandsaw from Timbecon in Perth. Both sight unseen, but they were 'generic' rebadged brands so couldn't really go wrong unless you got a lemon.

    Cheers,
    Adam

    • TSC10-HB - Timbecon via WWS, took away on trailer and "dropped" it off myself
    • 2HP DC - H&F Sydney, into the back of a biggish hire car
    • ML392 planer thicknesser - Timbecon via WWS, as per TSC10HB; sold to Canberra person
    • CT 8" planer - Carbatec Melb on special, shipped here
    • GMC 12.5" thicknesser - the Bunnings deal a few years ago (still got it, unpacked ), fits in car boot
    • I'd like a 15" thicknesser but just haven't the room. I'd probably buy in Sydney and have it delivered, but I've noticed Melb CT have better prices in general for things I'm looking for. Can't justify it (yet )
    • Last year CT wasn't at the WWS - so don't look for a large range of big items there. Also, Canberra "show specials" have been getting pretty average (or bad) in recent times - RRP or 5% off seems to be adequate to be a "show special"!
    Welcome!

Ain't thaat the truth. They were $400 cheaper on a thicknesser than Sydney when I was looking. I nearly shipped one from melbourne but was saved by finding an old used machine. I tried to get them to shift on price but they would not budge even when I told them I was going to buy it from CT in Melbourne. I would have done that, even if it cost me more to get it here and I had it in the back of my mind to fax the invoice to them just to prove a point.
