    Default Flip Saw

    Hi Folks,

I'm currently kitting out my shed and was looking at a mini table saw (i had to rip down some timber over the weekend and it was a pain with a circular saw).

during my google search of table saws, i came across a Dewault Flip Saw that only seems to be available in Europe. I remember my old man had a Makita version back in the day and was wondering why they aren't sold in Australia (or the US for that matter)? Is it a WHS thing or something?

I'd have thought there'd be a decent market for them in todays market where houses (and sheds) are getting smaller and smaller so space is at a premium... I'm in a townhouse with a single lock up garage, so my first priority is figuring out storage. Already knocked up a basic workbench, but there's no shelves in there at the moment so everything is scattered over the floor.

I wish I knew what happened to the old Makita... apparently Dad loaned it to someone and lost track of it... he passed away a few years ago so pretty much no chance of finding it again...

I have an ELU Flip Saw. I have been using it for 30 years or more. It is a great machine. Elu was the original makers and in later years DeWalt/Black & Decker rebadged them and were/are marketing them. Ebay has them sometimes

I found them to be fantasitic for site work where you would be doing a fix out so you would be doing a lot of docking, square cuts as well as mitres, then do some ripping. Very handy. My Elu is still quite accurate for mitres even after all this time
    Just do it!

    Kind regards Rod

I have the same ELU and have used it for at least 40 years. They come up on gumtree quite often and I have seen some for as low as $200 but generally under $800. Mine has a sliding table attachment but I never use that as I only use it as a drop saw. Since Dewalt took them over they don't bring them in and spares are not available from Dewalt but are readily sourced from England.

I just wish i knew who my old man lent his too... I have an uncle that i never see who's a massive tight *** so i'll be he's got it and never returned it... It was such a good bit of kit...

Virutex have a combined 12" mitre and table saw, the TM33 sells new for around $1100 and there's more expensive models above that so not a budget option. But they're the only one for fixout that I know of on the market.

I've seen a few combos like that (mainly on UK tool sites). I prefer the flip saws though, you get a greater surface area when using the table saw, and both are at the same height when you're interchanging. Makes an out feed table easier to use.

    Thanks for the info though.

The flip saw is a better choice for sure. Makita sell the LF1000 in NZ but not here, not sure why as they still have some rare machines like their chain mortiser available.

Ozito of all brands had one a few years back, I remember seeing one in Bunnings. I doubt that many were sold but you might come across a used one which won't be expensive due to the branding. The Elu would be a far better choice if you can get one.

Yeah i've been checking Gumtree & Ebay every now and then... see if one pops up that doesn't cost $10k to ship haha
