What the saleman said minimax cu300 classic
Hi All
On the MINIMAX CU300 CLASSIC the motors are Single-phase 1,8kW 2,5HP 50Hz with a S1 rating.
The salesman stated that in actual fact that meant they were equal to a 3HP motor with my very limited knowledge on electric motors and after looking the meaning of S1 up, I felt this might not be entirely correct and S1 was the ability for the motor to operate at continuous load for sufficient time to enable the machine to reach thermal equilibrium. So how could this make a 2.5HP motor into a 3HP motor
And at the end of the day would this 2.5HP motor be big enough to rip through a 100mm slab of seasoned Australian hard wood with out to much trouble
I will mention here that the Hammer C3-31 machine motors are rated at 4HP!
So really the information I am after please are the motors on the MiniMax big enough for this heaver ripping operation from time to time.
As I said at the being of my post I do not know much about electric motors so if what I have said does not make a lot of since to an electrical engineer go a bit genital with me please.

G'Day Col,
You are wise to be wary of a salesmans ramblings.
A 2.5hp motor is a 2.5hp motor. The S rating doesn't improve the motor output. It is related to the winding insulation and how the motor handles heat.
My table saw has a 2hp motor and I haven't experienced any problems ripping the recycled HW that I use.
With home use you can take your time and reduce the feed rate if you think the saw is struggling a bit. Those were the droids I was looking for.

Hi Chook a lot has happened in the last seven days in respect of my original post. I have purchased a Hammer C331 Comfort combination machine. I contacted Felder told them I was interested and wanted to know more about the machine with the intentions of maybe buying one
Now the next part blew me out of the water the sales person asked me what I knew about the machine and I had to say not much at all, he asked if I would like to make an appointment to discuss the machine further…… and so seven days later I find myself waiting for the machine to arrive at the end of March.
It was my intension not to say anything about the machine until it arrived although I did let a couple of forum people know what I had done mainly for the reason that my friends and family think I have lost the plot altogether and I should have a proper interest in things like bowls golf and probably train watching or some other mind blowing hobby…. So I thought at least I may get some interest of them which has certainly been the case.
Any way it’s all a journey and it’s the journey I enjoy not the destination.
