Sorry to drag the chain on this announcement, but

THE SAWSTOP CONTRACTORS SAW IS NOW AVAILABLE!

Now try and stay with me while I explain the available options and their associated costs....

The machine, in it's basic configuration looks a hell of a lot like this:

This machine will set you back $3,630.

The motor is single phase, 1.75hp.
Those black extension wings on either side of the cast iron table are made from pressed metal.
The fence clamps on the front aluminium extrusion and rear steel rail.
The machine shares the same oversized arbor and bearings as the cabinet saw, allowing the machine to still operate should an accident occur.
The machine in this configuration weighs 110kg.

And of course the machine has the same finger sensing and blade stopping technology as its big brother.

Options?

The machine can be fitted with the same T-Glide fence system as the cabinet saw - very schmick!

Available in either 36" rip capacity or 52" rip capacity, these machines are $3,960 and $4,070 respectively.

Also available for the machine is the possibility to replace the pressed metal extension tables with cast-iron. This option adds a further $325 to the above prices.

What else? Mobile bases! As one of my customers has already learnt, 110kg is not easy to move from the machines place of assembly.....which in his case was his kitchen.

Two options here - you've got the mobile base assembly with four castors to move your machine around the workshop - $300
Or you've got this cool looking thing that allows you to take your machine out into the great outdoors. Why would you do that? Job sites. Perfect for a tradesman - $460.

Last but not least is the option of a 30" outfeed table. $240, but be aware that you cannot use a wheel set if you have this table fitted.

OK.

I'll be the first to point out (now that my bottom jaw has returned from the floor) that this product and a few of its accessories are on the very bloody expensive side of ridiculous.....

The mostly equivalent JET machine (that I saw yesterday) is also expensive at around $1,600 inc freight but another $2,000 plus freight for a (admittedly handy) feature that is a substitute for common sense is....pretty steep.

And $300 for a mobile base? How is it different from the one I can buy for $125?

Sawstop is a great idea but the price of entry is......frankly.....insane. And a shame.

Overpriced by about a grand but nevertheless worthwhile.

As for the clods that say safety is only commonsense, they are somewhat deluded.
You only have to look at some experienced tradies to see that a momentary oversight can have painful and sometimes permanent effects.

I have to agree with SBD on this one. The sawstop feature is the best safety aid to come along in a long time but it is priced beyond the reach of most of us. I just hope that it will become more affordable with time. Car air bags were costly to start with and now they are a standard fixture. For as long as the price is this high most private users will do a risk assessment influenced by cost.
