Screeching Sound On Carbatec 250mm TS-C250P
Hi,
I seem to have a screeching sound when the tablesaw starts up. Its not slipping or anything, also I can hear like a squeaking sound when I manually turn the arbor. I'm guessing I need a new belt?. How do you take the things off anyway to inspect it?.

Worked it out, too easy.

My guess was that a thin rip got caught up in the works, jamming against the blade.

The belt seems to have alot of aluminium embedded into the grooves of the rubber, I've cleaned it all out with soap and water and dried it thoroughly. Replaced the belt and tensioned it correctly. I'm only getting a very small screech at startup now, is that normal?. Certainly not as bad as what it was before!.

I think I'll have to step up my cleaning game!.
Last week I'd been cutting alot of aluminium on the TS with the aluminium cutting blade so its from that. The pulleys are steel.
Do you know where I can get a couple of v-belt's from?. According to the manual for the TS I need a V-Belt 6-PJ 150. I'm unsure what the 150 or PJ stands for however I've measured the belt and its 390mm x 14mm (3.76mm thick). I imagine the rubber has expanded somewhat so I'm abit unsure all round with this one.

Screach on start up is normal. If the screach continues it is either a belt or bearing issue. Easiest to service the belt than bearings so start with the belt. Keep the belt clean and correctly tensioned and it will last for years.

Hi Rusty,
I gave the two pulleys and belt a good clean and the screaching has disappeared completely, the TS is running hell of alot quieter now!. However I've ordered a spare belt just in case at some point I need to change it.
What TS have you got?, how do you service the bearings by the way?, or at least apply new grease to them?.

These days I have a combination machine as I am now retired. During my working years I have pretty much had a relationnship of one form or another with most of the TS out there.
Servicing the bearings on most of the modern machines means replacement.
Keeping a spare belt is a good idea. The funny thing is the belt only breaks when you are running the saw and need to use it.

Late to this thread but just wanted to let you know I also had the screeching sound on startup. Tensioning the belt a bit tighter helped but I never thought to clean it. Don’t have the saw anymore so can’t offer more insight than that.

No problems now all fixed, no more screaching after a clean and re-retention.
