Default Sherwood 12in Hybrid Cabinet Table Saw

Has anyone got one of these to be able to give a review, please.

    https://www.timbecon.com.au/sherwood...inet-table-saw

Also any info on if it appears under other brands.

Thinking about upgrading from my Carbatec MJ2325 so I get a 12" blade and dado capability.

    Unfortunately not an unlimited budget

All comments invited, especially alternatives etc.

    thanks

    Keith

I'm glad I asked, it doesn't see all that popular.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the Sherwood 12 inch T/S?

    Gday duncada,

I've been giving this saw some thought.
    Currently I have an MJ2325/10" blade/3hp, the Sherwood has a 12"blade/2.5hp.
I am hesitant to buy due to the bigger blade with less power.

My next project involves ripping timber thicker than the available height on my current saw.
Probably rip on the b/s, then thickness/plane.

Let me know if you hear any reviews etc, please.
No rush in a lockdown with weeks to go.

I'm interested in the same saw so if any seasoned woodworkers can chime in with their opinion of the saw (even if they don't own one!) would be of great help.

Given these HP ratings are nominal there's very little difference between the 2.5 and 3HP

One thing to bear in mind is the the motor HP is only delivered when called upon by the cutting activity.

When free running a 2.5 or 3HP motor is actually only producing about 1/2HP
As the wood gets thicker the motor generates more HP.
The same piece of wood eg 2" thick, will require the same additional HP whether its being cut by a 2.5 or 3HP motor.
A 2.5HP motor can usually generate 3HP when called upon.

3HP is a big ask for anything above about 75mm hardwood especially if the blade is fully embedded in the cut. Its much better to use a BS for this activity

This one is on my toy list due to the price/value on paper but it would be nice to hear from someone who actually has one

I asked Timbecon if they had a video of this saw available, but they said no.
Referred my request to their video makers.
    Fingers crossed.

Motor horsepower is not important if you’re using the incorrect blade for the task. With 2” more diameter the blade has more leverage to cut anyway, so the motor horsepower difference is not that relevant. More important is build quality, accuracy, and the ability to quickly adjust operating details, easily, and repetitively. One of the things I noticed on these saws when I was looking for a smaller one was the machining of the parts. On some saws (machineryhouse) it was woeful, when i pushed snd pulled on the riving knife, the whole blade assembly moved😳, on another, (carbatec) the saw was ok in the 90 degree position, but when it was canted over anywhere between 90 and 45, the blade assembly could flex around a few degrees, it was not good at all. Some of the fences I looked at were rubbish, way too much flexing.

I thought it was good value and has a sliding table which makes it a much more useful, and accurate piece of equipment. Easy and quick to change blades too.

I’m not sure if that question is directed to me and the saw that I showed or to the original post?

Sorry, I should have explained. I have an interest in buying Sherwood 12in Hybrid Cabinet Table Saw but wondered if anyone had considered the Carbatec Professional 250mm Cabinet Saw and maybe done some sort of comparison between the two?. Maybe I should start a thread asking that question?.

    Hi Sadsam

I was the original poster of this thread and whilst i can't remember specific details in differences, i ended up going for the carbatec table saw and am just waiting on delivery at the moment. Overall, i looked at a number of threads that spoke individually about these saws and the carbatec one seemed to get more praise overall with less negatives associated. Maybe try looking at othee threads to see if you can find those review comments by other forum members.

Sorry i dont have more details.

    Cheers

Also, here is a review of the carbatec saw by Damion Fauser. I have completed a couple of courses with damion who is a very experienced custom furniture maker and when i stumbled across this review online it made me much more comfortable going for this table saw.

River builder. Are you able to give us a honest assessment on this panel saw pls. I'm in the market for one and this will be my first panel saw /toy/best buddy for the next few yrs till upgrade. It falls within my budget. I've looked up all the other suggested ones and they are awesome with a hefty price tag. Some require delivery where as this one is just down the road for me if it's a decent unit. Thanks mate.
