    Default Older woodfast table saw

    Hi all,

I have an old Woodfast table saw I purchased second hand a couple of years ago. Photo: Attachment 136013

The saw is working fine. The question I have is in regards to the table which can be attached to the side of the unit. Again, see pic below. The only knowledge I have about this unit comes from this thread: https://www.woodworkforums.com/f153/o...machine-97759/.

Side view of unit: Attachment 136014

Drive shaft and motor: Attachment 136015

    Additional table: Attachment 136016

The additional table I have looks like it might suit a disc sander which presumably can be attached to the drive shaft on the side of the unit. My question is, does anyone have any experience with these units and know if a sander can be attached and if so, how it can be done. It looks like the top drive shaft is too high above the table to mount a sander on, which is why I am having doubts about this (see photo of the side of the unit).

Any help would be appreciated. I also have more photos I can provide if helpful.

    Thanks,

    Jack

G'day my woodfast is 1960's grey beast and I have a dowelling chuck coming out of the side. Would that be the same for yours I wonder?? Also have a reverse switch so i don't have to use left handed drills.

    Cheers

The top shaft has a key in it and looks also to be internally threaded,
So I guessing that some other accessory fits that shaft ,maybe a dowelling drill chuck or similar.

I have an old 10in Gilbro combo unit with a similar setup, but the power takeoff is from the saw spindle itself. Dowelling chuck replaces blade and securing nut. Side table is fixed height and dowel position is adjusted with the blade rise and fall crank. Apears to also be suitable for bulking out mortices before chiselling clean as well. Slots accept the standard mitre guage that came with the saw to control allignment of holes.

    Thanks for the feedback.

I spoke to someone who used to own a similar tablesaw and he seemed to recall having a sanding disk for his. Does anyone else know about this and how it can be done?

The top shaft is not internally threaded but it has a threaded hole for a grub screw in it.

Unfortunately I'm not too interested in a dowelling chuck!

    Thanks,

    Jack

I can't see a lot of detail for the aux table mounting hardware so I'm not sure where it goes in the system. However I interpret the side view and motor/arbour photos as showing the system with the blade fully elevated.

With the blade fully dropped, the arbour should drop about 4 inches relative to the saw table, leaving room for a 9inch or so sanding disc to run on the arbour below the saw table. Hopefully the aux table mounts low enough to make that useful. The aux table photo shows a rebate about big enough to clear a similar sized disk.

I suspect that the disk would need to be removed for sawing to allow the arbour rise and fall to elevate.
