Default Standard "help with a table saw question"

Hi guys I know this question has been thrashed but thought id put my question out there to get a custom answer. I decided on the carbatec 10' contractors saw but rang and apparently there out till december and thats no good. The hare and forbes sb12 is 15amp so no good either, and some reviews werent great. So I came across the woodman sb1012os which is just in my budget and size, has anybody used this saw, im mainly ripping aus hardwoods up to 40mm thick and about 1m long, is the fence solid? Etc etc. Or are there any other similar saws you recommend in that size and price. Thankyou for any help given, will really be appreciated.

Lachlan.....15amp should not be show stopper......basically (in most cases) your power point is capable of 15amp.....you need to check with an electrician to ensure that the cabling to the point and breaker are rated to 15 amp.....most are. If so change the PowerPoint with a 15 amp point.

as to the 1012....well there are many variants but if the one you are looking at is the same as mine (also a woodman branded unit) then it won't have an issue cutting(ripping) hardwood!! I use a thin kerf ripping blade from Frued and it cuts through dense KDHW like butter.

Got a pic of the saw you are looking at?

    cheers

I have the SB12. If you can overcome the 15 amp obstacle it is good value.

The only problem I had with it was setting it up initially.

The wings are not easy to set up level and coplanar with the table.

I overcame this by drilling and tapping some holes in the edges of the wings where they meet the table top and fitting grub screws to allow for adjustment.

After doing that I had the wings level and coplanar in about 15 minutes, having mucked around with shims for several hours with no success.

It is a good powerful and accurate tool to use, having taken the time to set it up right.

    Cheers

Thanks so much Doug3030 and simops for the replies, much appreciated. There is a picture of the machine on the major woodworking shop website if you wanna check it out. Im leaning towards the woodman, it looks like a sturdy saw and ill get a good blade to make it a bit easier through the hardwoods. I also found the Tradetools 12m10 saw which also looks good value and very very similar, so that could also be an option.

Lachlan.....I did a review on my saw here. https://www.woodworkforums.com/f171/sb-12-woodman-cabinet-148542

It is a Woodman SB12, looks the same as the one on Major Woodworking site and same price...... It is 2Hp single phase and 10 amp....and not 15 amp.....checked and is a normal 10 amp plug. So not sure why the one you saw was 15 amp....maybe the motor has since been upgraded??? Another variant??? On the web site it does not mention it as 15 amp??

Like Doug I had issues with mine....More serious than what Doug had, so can be somewhat Russian roulette when it comes to low end priced table saws. There is never an easy decision to make when it comes to this price range of saws. Anyhow my issues where overcome (at a price) and now the saw sings!

    Cheers

Maybe you are getting confused between the 2 saws Simops. The H&F SB12 is 15amp as it is 2250W. The Woodman is only 2000W and therefore 10amp.
I have the Major branded saw of the same design as the Woodman and have found it to be quite good for the price range it is in. The power is good even with the 300mm blade and cuts through redgum to the full depth of the blade without any major concerns with speed. I found the aluminium facing on the fence not to be dead straight and with the rounded bottom on it, caused problems when trying to cut very thin materials. I replaced the aluminium with an MDF fence which fixed both problems. I may have been lucky as my tables were pretty flat from the outset. Only needed a little tweaking to get dead flat.

    Yes you are right
....I have the 2000watt unit. So many variants. Never the less it cuts through hardwood without issue.
