I don't understand the purpose of this thread - there has been so much discussion about this already recently.
what dont you understand? i have mearly asked if anyone has had hands on experience (still laughing at that) with the SS. i didnt see this covered or asked in the last thread
Either you want the SawStop feature or you don't. The quality of the saw itself is not in question.
yes i do want one but i also want to do some research on it. as did you on your blog. i have never questioned the quality of the saw
If you were to buy one (and they are not cheap), you'd buy a spare cartridge when you are talking about a $5000 saw, what's another $100 if you are so concerned about the saw being out-of-action after an activation?
silly comment really as you would have no idear on other peoples resources and of course you have to take into account down time, it is not so much a concern but another box to tick
If you are concerned about false activations, use the testing feature until you are happy that you know what situations are likely to cause a false one
ie do people test there timber? how often? dose this waist time?
and of course do people leave the override switch on cause its easier?
as you have said this is an expensive TS so i feel that i would be foolhardy to just go out a buy one before i did some research and it is that that im trying to do. i apologise if you dont understand the thread but it seems others do and still have something to say on the matter and i for 1 appreciate it

And you seem to have missed my point in my first response. SS has not been on the OZ market long enough to make a track record. As of March, Brendan had sold 8 saws, 3 of which went to institutions. Of the other five, I guess they don't post here (hard to believe, I know). Have you gone to Sawmill Creek and done a search? Or are you just going to keep banging your head against the wall because it feels so good when you stop?
Cheers,
Bob

I hate to say it....in fact it almost kills me to say it....but HB is correct.
It will be very difficult to find someone to testify to the SawStop's competencies within Australia. The longest that anyone has had a SawStop (that we have sold) is 2 months.
That said - I invite you to bring along your wettest, greenest, most moist timber to the Woodworking Show next week and we can see if would set off the brake.
Let's test this thing. SawStop claim that the machine can detect 'wet wood' and shut the machine down before the mechanism is activated. I've not seen that feature yet but I would be keen to witness it. I am confident that the brake won't be activated, but it will still be interesting to see what the SawStop does.

Ya right are you willing to wade through sawmill creeks bloated archive of threads, there would be hundreds of pages.
One thing you're gonna have to get used to on the internet is every question known to man has been asked and will be asked anew about every 6 months - get used to it or find another hobby.

If that was directed at me, it is badly misplaced. I have answered the same questions on these forums any number of times. The point was that THERE ARE NOT MANY AUSTRALIAN SAWSTOP USERS --so the OP can ask the question over and and over, but until the base is built up, no one can answer.
But, in the US the SS has been around long enough to have been tested. So one can wade through Sawmill's "bloated archives" () and learn something, or one can languish here waiting for the bus that will not be along for a goodish while yet.
kmthor is quite rightly going to see Brendan at the WW show. Good move.Cheers,
Bob

My mistake, from reading thru threads on the sawstop here for some reason i got the impression the machine was nothing special in the tablesaw arena (minus the safety feature).
I'd love to try some of the treated pine we had delivered to the community shed for a pagola project we are building for the local hospital. It was literally soaking wet, leaving a damp mark on the floor where it was stacked.
So what price are they selling for in Aus at the moment?

It varies....
Single phase (3hp) machine with 900mm (36") rip - $4,500 +GST
Single phase with 1300mm (52") rip - $4,700 +GST
Three phase (5hp) with 900mm - $4,800 +GST
Three phase with 1300mm - $5,000 +GST
And because I know everyone hates seeing a price with "+GST" on the end;
Single phase, 900mm - $4,950
Single phase, 1300mm - $5,170
Three phase, 900mm - $5,280
Three phase, 1300mm - $5,500

....which is the market I usually deal with, thus it rolls off my tongue.
I had a guy a few years ago spit the dummy over a machine I sold that stated the machine was $2,000, but as a separate item there was a $200 gst charge on it. We had discussed this at the time of purchase, but he still felt the need to ring me and chastise me.
I asked him to check all the other receipts that he had from items he purchased at the same Working With Wood show and see if the GST was listed. It was stated on every single receipt, because it has to be.
I know that hobbiests want a total price, not a price "+GST", so I am usually conscious of this when quoting to folks. But given the recent questioning of the pricing of the SawStop machine, I felt it necessary this time to let people know how much the government is getting, rather than Gabbett charging 10% more for the sake of it.

I just can't understand the hatred that some members are showing towards the Sawstop. If you don't like it fine, but to keep banging on about it, and in a way that shows as having an almost pathological hatred towards it is becoming quite boorish.
What is it about the saw, has it killed a family member, maybe kidnapped a child, or possibly is the cause of a major disaster somewhere in the world?
The only thing I can see is that it might save someones finger. No other saw has this type of feature, so what is the problem, don't you like fingers?
Let me also say, I have never met or spoken to Ruddigar (Brendan) and have no affiliation with Sawstop or Gabbets.
