Which table saw?

I purchased the supersaw after looking at various options (specifically in the Jet range).

The contractor saw was out, because the motor extended about 400mm out the back and I have very limited room in my two car garage.

This left the cabinet saw or supersaw. Since I have never had a table saw before, I did a lot of www searching. There is not a lot about the supersaw and what there was, was negative about the supersaw (mind you the negatives seemed to come from those that didn't own one). I visited Woodworking Warehouse (Braeside, Vic) and had a look. They did not have a supersaw on display at the time so concentrated on cabinet saw. Re-visited and had a look at the supersaw. I liked the fence, wasn't sure about the sliding table, but it boiled down to one thing, the saw tilt.

Whilst most articles I read said it depends on your preference (If left handed, get right tilt etc). I read one article describing two chaps cutting a 24" wide 3/4" thick panel with mitres on both edges. One using right tilt the other left. The left tilt was so easy, fence at 23 1/4") and cut, but the new mitred edge for second cut ran across the fence side, not the bottom edge as would a right cut. It's also easy for me when blade changing, as nut is on right hand side.

I have found the sliding mechanism to very useful in the limited amount of work I have done to date with big easy to read indicators. I needed to cut some corner blocks for a table I am making from 45 x 76 hardwood. Clamped into the sliding table, grabbed the two large handles and slid the table towards the tilted blade. At no time was my hand any closer than 30cm from blade.

The saw guard is also neat in that the two sides are independant, so when blade is tilted, both sides still rest on table top.

One thing that I noted and I asked about before purchase was poor dust extraction - Woodworking Warehouse agreed that they had negative feedback in this area. I can confirm that my 2HP dust extractor does not get all the dust out of the cabinet, but a quick clean inside when finished for the day it's gone.

I also thought the sliding on/off switch was a gimick, but I have moved it twice already in an attempt to find the most comfortable location to suit me and not the manufacturer.

It's quiet, accurate and rips 45mm KD Hardwood like butter.

For my first table saw, I am one happy camper.

By the way, the Jet Cabinet saw is 2HP (JWCS-10), whilst the Supersaw is 1.75HP.

Guys,

I gave gregory machinery in Brisbane a call yesterday and was told that they only import the supersaw with the sliding table option.

Has anyone had experience with the ST-12H sawtable from the Hafco Woodmaster range. I just had a look at a catalogue i got from the WWW show and it looks, from the pretty picture, to be similar to the jet 1800 odd dollar cabinet saw? It retails for around $1800 also. Would this be a better option for those of us looking at the supersaw but don't want the sliding table?

Woodworking Warehouse stated that they would be bringing in the Supersaw without the sliding table. Since they are part of the Woodman Group I guess Gregory's etc would also have same.

zymurgy- good to see some Super Saw feedback from someone who actually owns one in Australia. I am certainly interested in any updates on the saws performance as you get to know it.

The Super Saw sparked my interest in off loading the Triton. I haven't actually seen one yet but the brochure impressed me.

Well I have completed my first project using the supersaw (have to justify pruchase

) SWMBO is very happy with it. Just six chairs match.

The saw was a dream to use. The legs have a 45 degree chamfer on inside and the saw ripped them beautifully. All crosscuts were 90 degrees and NO finishing required.

I have already cut most of the material for chairs and the sliding table just made it so easy. Set the depth stop, and cut the pieces to the same size.

There has been talk about the fence (movement at rear). All I can say - had no impact.

Sawdust is NOT evacuated from cabinet completley. But easily accessed and cleaned out via back door. This could be my DC unit, but since many others have mentioned the same issue elsewhere, it's a design fault.

I had one small issue that I resolved. The table on the left of the blade had a bow (high) in the middle. There were adjusting screws to support the table along that edge (I assume if the sliding table is not used, but a cast iron wing). But nothing to pull it down. So I made a quick bracket and attached to the table top after clamping it at level. Worked like a charm!

Glad to hear that your having fun with your new "Jet Super Saw"
I am seriously considering purchasing one my self after weeks of resarching it appears to be the best value for money.

Just acouple of questions for you when you can drag your self away from the Jet

)

There appears to be 4 model versions of this saw just curious as to which modle you purchased ie: the model number?

Have you heard anything about the "xacta-lift" optional attachment that allows you to set up your router with this saw? As I'm wondering if it's a worth while option to purchase

And finally (Only if you don't think I'm being to nosey) where did you by it from and how much

JWSS-10SPF is the one I purchased. It's the sliding table one.

The JWSS-10PF is the one without sliding table. Add an X to both above models and you have the Xtended table versions.

Haven't read anything about the Xacta Lift. But I'm thinking of mounting my router in the table extension (there is room) and then I can use the saws fence.

Purchased from Woodworking Warehouse in Braedside (Vic). Paid $2250 with a Rip and Crosscut blade. Crosscut is a Freud and the other is Linbide (NZ). Both blades excellent. Price included delivery.
