Hey sheddie - who are you dealing with - Machinery international?

Q - does it have a moving or static riving knife?

Let us know whether the spindle is able to mount a dado.

Hope you catch a monster - no not the ex.

I rang Leda in Adelaide last week about this model taking a dado stack .
The spindle is too short .But the 12 " model will take the dada ,but it is just over $2,000.00.

G'day TK. Bought the TS from a mob in Kings Meadows. Can't think of the name. The business card is at home in my shed. I'll check it out Monday and let you know. No, it doesn't have a moving riving knife.
    Cheers

Don't know much about Dado blades. Not sure what I'd use it for? Better do a google.
PS:JUst had a look on the Lee Valley site. Can't really see much use for a dado blade in my saw. I have a Domi and lots of Berg chisels, a Jap saw and a Stanley no 10 rabbetting plane. Can do most jointing work with that lot I guess.

    Sheddie,

There's no real need for a dado head full stop.

I'd use a router instead -> far easier on the setup and safer

    Cheers,

Dado blades are very handy... and only as dangerous as the person using it.
A router dado is not easier to set up at all or quicker neither safer. Each has their own purpose and advantages... and disadvantages.

I wish people would stop bad mouthing them, something that happens here alot, I dont care if in Europe they are banned thats their own silly doing... why not ban all round saw blades, stupid!

you can bet yer boots that dado cutters are banned in Europe as their statistics proved they were unsafe.

    Why... what makes them unsafe?
Like any tool, use it properly and its safe.

I believe the reason they're not allowed is that all Euro saws are required to have a motor brake. The added inertia of the dado blade is too much for the brake. It is possible to fit grooving heads to Euro saws, these are a superior bit of tooling (similar to the adjustable grooving heads used in spindle moulders) but they have superior price to match.

So its the euro machines... not the tooling!
Are the grooving heads(a solid single blade dado cutter?)lighter than a dado?

The only thing that makes them unsafe is if you twist the cut... just like a every day table saw blade IMHO.
The dado is not ment to cut through so wood cant bind from stress movement, so you'll only get kickback if you twist the piece being shaped.
If you use feather boards for long grain cuts there is very little chance of kickback, and for cross cuts a proper set up using a sled not chance either.

I remember using a single 10" dado head a few years ago had a 1/2" bite... chunkiest bits of carbide I've ever used!

Nice hijack guys. Dunno the pro's and cons of dado blades just yet so I'll just leave them be for a minute.

That's not a hijack. It's actually quite relevant to the original topic.
