table saw binding mj2325a
hi guys,
I am very new to this and would appreciate some help.I have been through some posts but i could not find any reference to problems related to my saw or for that matter any saw.
anyway i have recently purchased a used MJ2325A TS and have been very busy cleaning it up and geting ready for setup, when i noticed at a 30deg to 45deg tilt the abour binds with the table and this only goes away when its below 30deg.
I have tried moving the table with no luck.So if u guys can shed any light i would appreciate it.
ps; the manual isnt any help

Would it be possible to post a picture of the saw ( switched off of course!) in that position? There are a few members here with your type of saw and a pic could make it easier to identify the problem.

Did you mean to say that that the whole saw pivots from a hinge on the table? If so, then there could be some adjustment in the way the 'hinge" is attached to the saw table.
Also, how old is the saw? if you bought it new, you could always get the vendor to fix it free of charge.

I have a different saw but I found if I raise the blade to full height and tilt it to 45deg the end of the arbor touches the table. Check if this is the case with yours. If so lower the blade a bit and check again.
I haven't bothered fixing mine but the fix would be to cut a bit off the arbor (don't want to do that), or grind the underside of the table where the arbor touches it (I will do this if need be).

I cant help you with your problem but here are some pics of the arbor of my saw. Its a MJ2325CT thats around 5 months old. It looks pretty much the same as yours.
Arbor diameter is 30mm that steps down to a 16mm thread, the threaded section is approx 16-18mm in length.
As you can see there is about 15mm clearance between arbor and table top that stays pretty consistent through out the travel between 0deg and 45deg. (pics are at full height.)
I will try to get some under table pics when i get a chance so you can compare your's to mine.
Let us know how you are going with your troubles.
Steven.

So.....what did you find?
Is the arbor touching the table or is the cause of the binding still unknown?

Here are some pics of the inside of my unit. (sorry about the quality)
I noticed that yours has a weld in about the area i have circled in my first pic. As you can see mine does not. Maybe this might hold a clue as to your problem, maybe not. Mine is a newish model and this might be normal on an older saw.
This area may not even affect the position of your arbor but at this stage it's worth a look.
Are you able to contact the previous owner to ask if any repairs were made to the saw before you got hold of it and to its age?
This is my second saw after the first one was replaced due to broken casting discovered by me when i was assembling it. Hopefully this sort of thing does not appear on my saw later on.
See how you go.
Steven.

Here is a pic of the broken casting on the first saw i recieved.
I think it's the same component that your's has the weld on but is on the opposite side and in a different position.

I'm sorry my suggestions havn't been of any use to you.
It's difficult to diagnose a problem when no one here has encountered one such as your's.
I'm sure there's a fix somewhere.
Steven.
