    Default Table saw gear lubrication

It is time for my biennial tablesaw maintenance. I have a Carbatec 10HB saw.

Can anyone please advise a suitable dry type lubricant for the worm gearing on the trunnions that cause the blade to rise and fall or to change angle to 45 degrees. It has to be one that will not cake with all the dust inside the cabinet, nor one that does not build up in layers over time
    regards,

    Dengy

About time I did this with my JET saw too - interested to hear any suggestions.

I interested in this too, both for my table saw but also for other places where wood contact is also possible - such as on chisel mortiser chisels. I watched a wood whisperer video where he sprays his mortiser chisels with a non-silicon based dry lubricant.

Ezy-glide by selleys is one dry lubricant that is easy to find, but I'm not sure if it is silicon based or not.

Somebody suggested paraffin wax to me. Is this a good thing?

I found this interesting thread here, which recommend against the use of any dry film PTFE lubricant like CRC Dry Glide which contains a resin, because the resin hardens and is unsuitable for gears. Looks like Selleys Ezy Glide might be the way to go, based on JillB's experience, but I am also interested in the Dupont Chain Saver or its local equivalent. Will go to a bike shop and have a look at what's around

Try White Lightning, it has worked on my mountain bike drive train in all conditions.

OK - I've downloaded the MSDS for Selleys Ezy Glide......and I still can't tell if it has any silicone in it

Can anyone who has used this product confirm that it is silicone-free, or do I need to phone Selleys to get absolute confirmation?

I'm thinking it might be good for the tops of table saws as well as a gear lubricant, but any silicone would rule that right out.

    Cheers

    My wife checked it.

Powdered spray graphite. It comes in a small yellow squeeze bottle but the trade name escapes me at the moment. No foreign chemicals to worry about and it is the slipperiest stuff imaginable. I would have thought that cleaning the gears would have made the action easy enough to not need a lubricant, I have never worried about it on mine.

Found a spray can of Selley's Ezy Glide at Bunnies, for just under $12. It has a fine nozzle attachment that enables you to spray in difficult to reach corners

Ezy Glide it is then - worth a try at that price.
