Option 1: Look for a good quality second hand saw.

Option 2: Keep saving.

I'd have to agree - your maximum spend is about what you should be paying for a good quality used saw which would have originally cost $1400 or so.

Anything less than $1000 new is likely to prove a disappointment IMHO.

Afraid so mate... I think $750 is going to leave you a bit short.

Also you may want to check out the prices of the dado blades before you make that a priority.

I just bought a Hammer set for my machine which was $1000... Just for the blades

I am pretty much in the same boat. I bought a cheapo Masters job to get me started. Does the job but pain to use and fail on fence parts etc.

I would like to buy something substantial, but the amount of work and size cannot justify the outlay.

Only thing that appears descent is the new "green" ryobi's but I am keeping an eye out for the Makita Tl 100 as it cuts 10mm thicker @90mm if needed and look a little more solid in body.

I think these brands have improved to what they use to be around 2007, so too has the price.

I accept they are not the best and will probably chuck a "quality" blade straight off the bat.

So I finally decided to go with the Makita MLT100 260mm Table Saw picked it up brand new for just over $500 cam with a nice extra blade valued at $170 as well! I've been using it since late Jan and my only complaint is the fence is wonky but I fixed that by knocking up a new one out of 19mm ply. Now she cuts perfectly (for my needs).
