That looks like a real nice piece of kit. If I was looking for an upgrade right now I would be more tempted by this than a SS

So when it says rip capacity is 1250mm so that means I can't rip anything longer then that due to the slider size?

...... yes, when using the sliding table to rip. I guess you could still rip longer items by locking the table and using it like a traditional tablesaw?

That's how it works on a Triton with the sliding extension table. So I guess it would be able to be done on a $5000 slider that way too.

Its smaller sibling is OK for those with a limited budget and floor space. W688 - TS250RS Panel Saw | Hare & Forbes Machineryhouse The redesigned sliding table overcomes most of the hassles of the prior version that I have.

Andrew, do you have 3phase power available? If not that may limit your choices for larger machines.

Leda and Oltre have lower cost sliders, but not in same league for quality as the Hammer and certainly lower than Felder.

My understanding is you'd rip anything longer than 1250mm to the right of the blade using the rip fence, just like on a standard table saw, and on the other less used side of the table you've got the slider for your cross cuts and shorter rips using a 'fritz and franz' jig (yes I know it sounds like a dance performed among the edelweiss whilst wearing lederhosen). Of course I don't own a slider but have been following the Sawstop Vs Slider conversation here and elsewhere.

I bought my sliding panel saw second hand, a 5 yo Griggio, with amassive 3.8m slider, electric rise, I don’t need the 3.8m slider but I put mybandsaw next to it so I have a sliding table for my bandsaw as well. bought for $5k NZD, new is $20k NZD

Speaking of Saw Stops - Ive seen two go in the last week. One on Gumtree (just up the road!) with all the fruit for $3500 (a steal!) and there was another on there last night.

That first one was glorious.

Not exactly, thats just what will fit between the cross cut fence and the blade when the table is fully pulled back. For ripping long timbers I just undo two locking lever screws, remove the crosscut fence, push the sliding table to the middle position where there is a stop pin to lock it, and then rip away using the fence. The whole changeover takes three minutes if you change to a rip blade as well.
edit: I have the Woodfast sliding table saw, I should have mentioned that.

As usual there's around half a dozen older Altendorf's for sale for $5k or less. A 30 year old F90 or F45 is still a better saw today than any of the new $5k table saws, even if you need to throw a couple bearings or a belt at it.

Nobody ever trades an Altendorf in on a Sawstop, just sayin'

That’s a great setup with the bandsaw, I’ve thought about doing that like that a few times over the years, it looks very good, well done.
