Table Saw Short List: $1.5-3k Range
I'm not the first and wont be the last to post about their table saw search. I'm looking to order next week and would welcome any input at the moment. More of my search on my blog.
As I do mainly medium to large furniture projects my requirements start with reliably and accurately cutting 3/4" timber but can cut 2" hardwood without strain. Dado ability is handy. A riving knife I would consider standard safety equipement but I don't see SawStop as necessity. Left tilt is my preference. Good dust handling is important. I want it to last twenty years. The original budget $1.5-2.5K.
Laguna 10" Platinum - $1995
Available at Gregory Machinery the Laguna is my current preference. It's a 3hp left tilting cabinet saw. It has removable riving knife and saw cover. The plastic faced steel T-style rip fence appears well built. Standard 16mm or 5/8" arbour for a 10" blade blade for a 20mm wide 8" Dado. 220kg. Ticks quite a few boxes and is within budget.
Jet Proshop - $1499
The Jet Proshop is available through Carbatec. It's open base design is closer to a contractor saw than a cabinet saw. However, unlike a standard contractor saw its motor is contained within rather then at the behind. It is a left tilting 10" saw. It's lighter at 113kg and takes up less shop space. It's 1.75hp would be more than enough for cutting 3/4" furniture timber but I fear would struggle with thicker wood or while using dado blades. Dust handling appears average relying on a sloped internal case. None-the-less appears good value.
Jet Xacta Deluxe - $2799
A 3hp 10" Jet work horse. This saw shows promise but it's over budget and not available until March. The non-deluxe model currently available atCarbatec doesn't have a riving knife but would be more than adequate.
Sawstop Contractors Saw - $3115
The Sawstop Saws are now available at Gabbett. They have a great reputation of being well built quaity saws. The are unique in their SawStop safety features (though I'm sure other companies will catch up.) Similar in to Jet Proshop it is a 10" 1.75hp saw. The engine is behind but in the Australian version within a case. It has easy to use riving knife and good dust handling. But its over $3K and 1.75hp.The Others
Carbatec had no stand-out models although the TSC-10HB looked interesting. It's a shame they stopped making the TS10L. The Felder/Hammer saws look great but start at $4.5K similar to the Saw Stop 3-5hp Cabinet Saw and over budget. Machinery House's offering looked like good value but nothing stood out.My blog: ~ for the love of wood ~ - http://theloveofwood.blogspot.com/

Hi Dan. I'll throw my two cents worth in. I can't comment on the Laguna but I have a ts10l so know you wouldn't be disappointed with the Jet Exacta Saw Deluxe. I have also helped a friend set up a Proshop and was very impressed with it. The biggest downside with the proshop is the hybrid setup which makes it more difficult to align the mitre slots to the blade. My friend has had no power issues when cutting with his and is very pleased with it. The ts10l/Jet exacta saw deluxe is beautifully made and finished. Since buying it the only table saw I have briefly thought about upgrading to has been the Sawstop and then only for the safety feature. Zero buyers regret with it!

Dan,I have had the Jet deluxe table for a few weeks but i'm yet to give it a real workout yet but it's looking promising. I was surprised that it came with the longer rails as I thought it was an added cost, so I'm turning it into a router table which should save some space.Where about do you live? If your in Sydney you can come around and I can show you the saw, I'm about to start a big project so I got plenty of wood to cut.Andy

I also have the TS10L and am still very happy with it, I have added the Wixey Digital Fence to it and it makes for a great combination.
I wouldn't consider a saw without a removable riving knife as I cut dados a fair bit, so that would rule out the non-Deluxe Jet Xacta, nor would I consider a contractor saw no matter how "safe", so that would rule out the Sawstop.
That leaves the Jet Xacta Deluxe and the Laguna, given the price difference I would chose the Laguna as it has all the features required and the money saved can be spent on a Wixey Digital fence (bought mine from Woodcraft in the US, who have them on special regularly, but also available locally. Other accessories I wouldn't be without are the Incra Mitre Gauge 1000 and the Wixey Digital Angle Gauge (came free with the Wixey Digital Saw Fence). You could buy the Laguna with all these accessories and still have money left over from the Jet Xacta Deluxe.

If you are interested in adding an Incra !000 Mitre Gauge to your saw, this for sale pots just popped up and would save you about $125 over current (special) new pirice.

Re: Table Saw Short List: $1.5-3k Range
Correction to my last, I infact have the Jet Xacta, not the deluxe.

I've emailed Gregory Machinery to confirm details for shipping the 10" Platinum Saw and some accessories. The saw should be more than what I need. Lets see what they have to offer.

I took delivery of a Laguna Platinum two weeks ago. I have assembled it but as yet have not run it as I am waiting to have a 15amp circuit installed. I can say that it is a really solidly built saw with most of the features you would want. The T square fence is much better than most of the others I looked at and the casting supporting the motor and blade look a lot more substantial than others.
Apparently the Laguna is the same saw(or similar) as Carbatec's discontinued TSCE-10L. I think the Laguna is worth the extra $500 over the Jet Proshop.

Did Carbatec advise you whether it is the 30" rail or 50" rail version that is arriving in March?
Cheers,
