Default First table saw upgrade from Triton bit which one?

    Hi guys

I'm in Melbourne and looking for advice. I'm upgrading from Triton 2000 and seeking my first real second hand table saw. Use is furniture and cabinetry for home diy. I'm looking to spend $5-600 single phase. what should I look for? Where should look? I've been keeping an eye on eBay but nothing come up locally. Any guidance is appreciated.

A makita table saw or the bosch are about that kind of money but you would have to build some kind of in feed and out feed table setup as they have a smallish table surface. Other option is a good second hand table or contractors saw. Look for a cas t iron top and check it is flat. Also check the fence is sturdy and locks in place. A little surface rust is not a worry as long as the main things all work.

    Hi Kev.

    I did a similar upgrade over 12 months ago and I bought this one W452 | SB-12 Table Saw | machineryhouse.com.au

When I got it it was on special and fell into your price range. It may come on special again. I am very happy with this saw. I put an Incra fence on it, not because there is anything wrong with the fence it came with, but for compatibility with the other tools in my shed. Its single phase but 15 amp plug. The increase in depth of cut from the triton to a 12" blade is impressive and would suit your furniture making needs.

    Hope this helps

Thanks everyone for your advice. I'll keep an eye open for the sales and also for good s/hand panel saws. In looking at the smaller tables such as Makita etc they are too small for what I need.

Keep suggestion coming ..if you see a super deal please let need know.

Even with decent January sales, I can't see you getting one of those for your $500 - 600. Also they run off a 20 amp outlet (massive). Usually anything above 2hp needs at least a 15 amp outlet.
There are quite often tablesaws for sale on the Market Place tab on these forums and usually within your budget.
Which side of Melbourne are you?

There is this one still for sale, but again I think it might be 3hp and therefore needing a larger plug.
Had another look, and yes it is 3hp 15amp.

Just on 12 months ago I did the same thing. After 10 years and many hundreds of hours of a Triton I got a "real" table saw. The Triton was good. I made kitchens and bathrooms and toys and cupboards and display stands and.... with it. I could rip half a pencil line with the thing it was so accurate. But.. the table saw is in another league and you will not regret it. Go for a cast iron top and a bit of weight. Make a good big outfeed table and you will be a happy woodworker.

    Hi Stu

I checked the saw at Trade Tools IBM Dandenong. The sales guy didn't know much about the saw. I couldn't work out how to adjust the fence...there were no grub screws. ..there was no raving knife attachment either. These were things that were important for me. The blade also tilts to the left. I prefer the blade tilt to the right. I'm glad you are enjoying your purchase but my search continues at the $1000 price point. I really think now there is nothing in the market at this level. I would say prepare to pay $1300 - $1600 for an entry level "well thought out and made" saw. I like the Jet saws with split blade guards..I think this is the benchmark for me.

If others out there have found different please share your experience.
