Why remove the riving knife. Just lower it.
I run mine a few mil lower than the blade all the time so there is never any need to mess with it. I also run a SUVA type guard. If your guard connects to you riving knife you can still run the riving knife a few mil below the blade, but you'll need to remove the guard for non-through cuts.
