Thread: Any tips on spare parts for Carbatec Table Saw?

A lot of Asian TS's were sold under the Grizzly brand in the US and they hold a lot of spares for their saws.

I THINK there's a chance I may have what you are looking for... from my 12" H&F saw. Do you have any reference/parts numbers? Let's face it, all the saws we buy generally come from just a couple of makers, just painted different colours...

No part numbers but I could take careful measurements of the two parts. And photos I guess, that would help. Will get back to you David.

Finally getting back to you David, sorry, was hard getting photos.

The wheel is 75 mm dia and the overall length of the worm gear is 130 mm

You're right. Same blinkin machine, 12 years later and different supplier. Different front cover on the user manual but exactly the same exploded parts diagram and numbers

Yeah, you probably will. That’s what the “H” in H&F stands for.

Sadly no.

There is no room to move it at all. And in any case the wheel is damaged too. My fault for not taking better care when things were getting a bit sticky.

Looking at how worm gears 'should' work, this is a mediocre approach they have taken in designing it all. The gears on the wheel are not made at the same angle as the rod at all, but are simple 90 degree teeth. What they've done is then cut a scoop out of the centre of the high part of each tooth on the wheel so they will 'kind of' mesh. I guess that isn't too bad if I took better care and made sure gunk didn't get in there and gum up the works.

And how about this. The quote came in from Axminster today. 57 pounds including shipping, so about $100 for both parts. Hare and Forbes quote is $188 including shipping, nearly double. Both will of course ship from country of origin which will be China for sure

I don't think the problem is with the gears. They don't look worn.

I'll re-iterate, put a packing washer behind the worm GEAR on the SHAFT to move to further along so it engages the worm drive (arrow in picture)

Also, the worm drive shaft is held to the arbour with two bolts, undo those and move the worm drive CLOSER to the gear. Use a love tap if one must, but there looks to be heaps of play available in this.

Not going to work at all woodpixel. The way it locates in there is no room for adjustment at all. And yes, the view I showed is of the clean unworn teeth, but the problem is the wear is on the central few rings on the rod and about 75 degrees of travel at the bottom of that wheel you can't see. I couldn't get a good photo of that but is is badly worn. No problem though, parts ordered, and it is cleaned up and operational for now too.

I guess my real problem is keeping dust out of the mechanism, and I simply don't see a practical way of achieving that. Cheap and cheerful table saws That's what you get, lousy dust management for a start, it's always been crappy in that department. The dust extraction is woeful at best with piles of sawdust accumulating underneath even tho the dusty pulls quite well now I've got a proper mesh filter in place of the old bag.

Are you using any kind of spray teflon lube? My saw came greased, which of course becomes a sawdust paste, now I use Dry-Glide or LPS-1

Have been looking at the mechanism now I've got the panels off and trying to work out a way of shielding the worm gears somehow from sawdust but doesn't really look likely. The problem with these cheaper cabinet saws of course is they are built to a price and some of the features of better devices are not ever thought about.

Can't really complain, the Hafco current model at H&F is under $2,000 still, exactly the same as mine, and except for a crappy rip fence has served me fairly well for 12 years now.
