    Default TS on/off switch harness

Has anyone seen an after-market power harness with safety switch ? My older saw looks like it'll need some attention to the power lead, it's a standard 10A plug and lead (motor rating plate says 9A) and I'd prefer to move from the harder-to-reach on-off toggle switch to something easier to get and with a nice big paddle emergency stop type setup, so was hoping to find a unit on a bracket (or that could be easily mounted on one) similar to the one on the Hafco SB-12 (new gen of my TS) but ideally with something more like the button/paddle here. I noted from Vic's video that the newer saws have an IEC style connector on the input power to the motor, which means if I was to use one of those harnesses I'd need to have an IEC socket fitted to the motor lead should I get something like that. I have seen a similar harness to the Hafco one at C'Tec, but note they're out of stock (and I haven't seen them in stock in a while!).

Anyone with other thoughts/suggestions? Yes, all this will be done by a licensed electrician as required, but here's the fine print (I'm self moderating here )

I fitted a switch of your preferred type - KJD17B NVR Switch No Volt Release Switch NVR ( 2HP/16A ) With Emergency-Stop AU | eBay - to my saw as a replacement for the standard toggle switch. It's fitted in the original switch position, which means that it's very easy to activate the stop with my knee. Works well and is a huge improvement to the switch it replaced. Not sure I would move the switch from its current location, it seems to work very well where it is.

Thanks Aldav, I knew yours had the "desired" switch, as I am pretty sure I'd saved the switch in my ebay watch list after our earlier chats

Positioning wise, with my saw at least I find that the switch is just a tad far away from the front of the saw, when taking into account the fence rails, and is also placed on the higher side compared to yours - nope just checked, its in the same position. So maybe my feeling on the position is just an artefact of the (thick-ish) rails being somewhat proud of the table edge which is somewhat proud of the saw cabinet face.... or maybe it's just the fact that I haven't had heaps of hours using it and have yet to develop a decent muscle memory on it's current location. But good to know you're happy with yours, I guess that's an appropriate suggestion. Then all I need is a sparky to replace the cable and fit the switch. Am planning to get the sparky here soon for some other work but probably have no hope of getting one of these switches in before then given the lead times I've seen on stuff getting out of China and into AU

You could look for a local supplier with shorter delivery. I have also purchased similar switches from Machinery Warehouse.

I've got a spare one of those switches (the ones Aldav linked) sitting here. I bought two, put one on my Tanner table saw and sold the machine I was going to put the other one on before I got around to it.
I'm in no hurry to use it so you can have this one just replace it sometime down the track
Those were the droids I was looking for.

thanks NCArcher, extremely kind of you, I'll PM you to sort out. I pulled the trigger on the purchase yesterday so the replacement will be here in "good" time Probably the day before I need it for real

Many thanks to NCArcher for his gracious loan of his switch - my saw now has the new switch mounted and ready to use (if ever the weather and time permits). And the one I ordered from eBay has finally arrived and is now winging it's way back to Katoomba. Thanks again !!

    Default Powrertec TS Switch Relocation

I was able to add a Powertec with on the left end of my TS top without adding any cabling, etc. Under $10 on eBay and rated for 15A. Very handy and quick to use.

@Bstrom, and it came as a harness?
Otherwise, thanks for the info, but in AU it's unlikely to be compliant how you have it mounted.

I had one of those flappy paddle safety switches like those pictured above. It was an OEM fitment to my Laguna Fusion tablesaw...and it was hopeless.

The flappy paddle used to pop off the switch if you pushed it sideways whilst manipulating timber through the saw...not great for safety.

And then the switch itself expired because it's actually not a great switch. And it's made worse by having all the current going through the switch. So it started to buzz and burn.

My sparky had some industrial switch boxes from NHP, one of which he modified to replace the stock push button off switch with a magnetic emergency stop (the one you have to twist to deactivate). This one has protected switching so the switches themselves aren't loaded...it should last forever.

Works a treat (just like the OEM one that Carbatec specced for our 15" thicknesser) and fits in exactly the same spot as the original switch thanks to a custom mounting...
Ours is not to reason why.....only to point and giggle.
