Wixey Digital read-out battery box
I recently posted that I was sick of buying new coin-type batteries for my Wixey digital saw fence readout, and that I was going to do something about it. Well, I did.
I went down to Jaycar in York St, Sydney and bought some bits & pieces - dangerous place that - including a switchable 2AA battery box and some rechargeable AA batteries - the new type that claim not to self discharge.
After a bit of fiddling with some alligator clips to check it would work, I soldered the wires to the battery contacts - note which colour wire goes to which contact, and carved a notch in the battery compartment cover. In the photos it is waiting for some double sided tape to stick the battery box to the readout box.
Due to the construction of the battery box it has to be offset a bit as the switch is on the back - away from the operator - so the battery door is readily accessable. The original switch on the Wixey still turns it on & off, and retains zero, but the switch on the battery box will stop the drain on the batteries caused by retaining zero information. After all, how hard is it to reset zero?

If Professional Woodworkers Supplies or Wixey want to put this up on their site, I hope they will either contact me for better photos or take their own - these have been reduced a lot or were fuzzy to start with
Oh Yes, this will almost certainly void your warranty. Copyright disclaimer etc for Wixey and so on.

Great idea
However, how much battery drain would you experience by leaving the battery box switch on and let the Wixey retain its' zero setting memory? In my case I would find it a pain to reset zero every time I want to use the saw. I would have thought that the AA batteries would last a long time even whilst retaining the zero memory.
Also, had you given any thought to using AAA batteries and have less bulk?
