Disappointing start Spartan, what do they cost, something close to $300?

Might have to rethink mine, that is very poor.

This link gives a reasonable review with very similar problems to mine....it also reviews the other guides as well....

It cost $260 plus postage. In the US its $150 USD with is about $170 AUD. That's big mark up.

Ok, all installed.

It all went fairly easily after I fixed up the screw that was malformed.

It fits perfectly on my Xacta II fence and as you would expect it seems to be highly accurate.

I've set it up to read 52" or about 1400mm to the right of the blade.
I've checked the measurements with my various steel rulers, 300, 600, and 1000 mm and it is dead on.

It seems to be a much more practical way of working out dado's and rebates, as you simply just re-zero the device when you set up a new blade, or even if you attach a sacrificial fence.

One limitation appears to be what happens to measurements about 1000mm. Because it is a four digit display I'm guess you could be up to .5mm to 1mm out at measurements. I've asked the manufacturer about this.

All up I think that has been a good addition to the shop.

By popular demand some setup pics of digital table saw fence.....


Picture 1 is the box that the components came in. It was well packaged all parts were in good order except for one screw - which I was able to fix with a fine file. There was a not about filing the rails where they came together. I didn't really need to do that. You notice a slight bump when you go over the join but it doesn't seem to affect anything....

Picture 2 Is the contents of the box! You will note that you get two batteries with the setup just in case the first one is DOA. The expected life of the battery is six months. The unit has an auto power off function.

Picture 3 Is the view from the front of the saw. Yes the shed's a mess but what a magnificent saw you have there Warren

Picture 4 This shows how the rail attaches to the fence. I had to alter the distance listed in the instructions. It says this is ok in the instructions, but I dropped an email to the manufacturer wh0 was very responsive - Well Done Barry!

Picture 5 This is the readout attached via magnet to the Xacta II fence. The kit comes with a magnet bracket again, mine did it need it because its the business.

Spartan, thanks for that (glad you got the date right). Am I right in saying that the Wixey gauge is installed to the left or saw blade side of the fence on your saw? I thought on the Wixey website it was on the right? Can it be installed either side?

On my setup everything is on right of the blade, with the gauge its on the left of the fence.

The gauge can be set on either side of the fence.


Mine allow about 8" to the left of the blade and 52" to the right....

So how would I rate it.....

Accuracy - 10/10
Packaging - 8/10
Quality of Parts - 7/10
Instructions - 6/10
Ease of installation 8/10
Cost - 6/10 - seems to steep with the aussie dollar the way it is...
Value for money 7/10
Risk - you could insanely paranoid about .1 of mm...
Cons - four digit read out means you have some issues over 1000mm. Barry Wixey comment to me on this was that it was aimed at the US market....

Overall - A good addition to good quality saws.
