Have a look at the Laguna platinum for $2000. Really solid saw - 3hp motor, left tilt blade, quick release riving knife and a solid fence.

I must be one of the lucky ones who seems to have received a reasonable quality saw. It is not perfect by any stretch, and I will now test the blade when I lower and raise it as per Simops post. I agree with Simops that saws at these price points are built to a price and will most likely have flaws. What it means for me is that the flooded 'Chinese built' market gives me and people like me access to machinery that previously would have been out of my reach. I upgraded from a Triton and this saw leaves it well and truly behind.

    Hi all,

I've been lurking massively lately, doing my homework on "cheap" table saws and I've decided on the SB10/12 based on features and value for money. Sounds like a bit of a lottery but hopefully I'll be one of the lucky ones.

But the main reason I'm posting is that I looked at the excellent video on "wood whisperer" about setting up a table saw. In the video he is setting up his own Powermatic TS which was specially custom made for him by Powermatic, who are one of his sponsors. One of his first comments is that he is fitting his second table top because the first one was not flat.

Just made me think that even the better saws have their issues.

Yes, its easy to forget how things have changed for the better. When I was a kid my parents took a trip to Australia (we lived in Nz) and Dad came back with three B&d powertools. He was a neighbourhood hero. The queue to borrow them was about a mile long and we kids just basked in the reflected glory.

    Cheers

I've been looking to upgrade for a while and this is on my shortlist...until I saw this Harvey HW10T30 Tablesaw - Major Woodworking Equipment

It looks identical to the laguna, same specs, same fence, same mitre gauge.....differnt badge & $200 cheaper.

    Anyone got one?

I ended up getting the Laguna Platinum, I believe is the same machine as the Harvey but at the time there were none in Aus so went with Laguna.

The fence looks a little different to me and I can't see the mitre gauge on the Laguna but I reckon you might be onto something here.

Since they are almost the same can you tell me how you find the laguna?

Or does someone have a harvey?

Got mine from there too but in the Major brand. They are the only reasonable woodwork machine supplier on my side of Melbourne.
Can't be long now until you pick yours up.
