Default Very New Woodworker looking for a Saw

Hey, this is my first post of this forum so i'd like to say hello to you all and ask for a little help. Im just starting out in woodworking and looking to get a little more serious. I have convinced the wife to buy me my first table saw for Christmas. The original budget was $200

After looking around this forum I am thinking that most of you would laugh at anything I could buy in that price range (was originally looking at the "Triton Powered Saw Table")

Since getting a feel for whats out there and quality (thanks to this fantastic forum) I have since convinced the wife to raise my budget to around $500 (not easy) so I am wondering whats the best deal for that price range.

As for its use, I will be making Furniture. ripping and crosscuting softwoods, hardwoods, ply and other board products.

My considerations so far are: "Jet JTS-315SM" "Triton Workcentre 2000" or "HAFCO TS-250"

Anyone have experience with any of these products or otherwise know what the best deal would be in this price range?

    Default Saw bench options

It will depend how much time you are going to devote to wood work and how intricate your projects will be. A good table saw is more accurate but you are limited just to cutting timber. With a Triton you have a portable power saw and a TS which is more flexible. The real advantage is that you can add further equipment to the bench e.g router table to give you more options as you develop your hobby without spending big money on stand alone machinery. There are also space saving advantages. These benefits have to be off set against the time lost changing the Triton to do want you want for each part of the project..

Welcome aboard! It will very much depend on how your interests develop and how much you get into using hand tools, but you might also like to consider a bandsaw. Not very good for sawing sheet goods, but flexible if working together with hand tools on furniture projects or turning.

Thanks for the reply's, Im leaning towards the Triton Workcenter2000 at the moment. is there a lot of difference between this and there much cheaper powered table saw? also is there a saw built in the Workcenter2000 or is that something i need to buy separately?

I do have a band saw (a very cheap GMC one) and a few other tool, including a circular saw that I do believe is older then i am.

I guess i don't need super accuracy as my budget and skill don't really extend that far, im jut looking to start making some larger peaces, like a coffee table and some nice bedside tables. My woodworking experience is pretty limited, so far all I have made is a plant stand and a small wooden lamp.

As far as tools go i have a few bits and peaces mostly cheap GMC stuff, like a Band Saw (cant rip a straight line of it if my life depended on it.) a really old Black & Decker circular saw, Ozito Router, B&D Sander, Dremel rotary tool, GMC powered planer, corded drill, GMC Miter saw, GMC jigsaw with lazer guide a few chisels and a cheap hand plane, oh and my shiny new Iconz belt sander.

I'm thinking just a table saw now and I have the basics to make some nice peaces of furniture. do you think the Triton Powered Saw Table would fill that gap? or should i go for the workcenter2000 i do like the idea of being able to buy an attachment to use my router in the table, is that for the WC2000 or the PST? anyway i have rambled enough, thanks for the input!
