Xpert 8inch Deluxe Saw - anyone ever used?

If you can get the 10 inch contractors at a price that is affordable for you, and not create a truckload of domestic disharmony at home, I suspect that it would be the smart way to go. On the other hand if it would incur a couple of years of "I told you not to buy that piece of junk etc" tread cautiously, as it will probably impact on your next several planned purchases. Then again having a machine that doesn't get used because it is unsuitable or unsafe may well create the same environment.

Bearing replacement will probably involve significant disassembly, access to press tools or similar to extract and replace the bearings, and a load of work to clean, reassemble and reallign the unit. The bearings will probably be fairly cheap, but the effort involved might not be. If you go that route, you still end up with an 8in pressed metal topped saw. Personally I would be shy of putting up $50 for a basic mitre gauge to run in a pressed top, let alone a premium one.

Agreed on all points. Whilst I don't think removing the Arbor and bearing would have been overly difficult on that particular saw ( it was quite a rudimentary in a mechanical sense under the hood) I would have had to find somewhere to press out the bearing and supply and fit in a new one.

In then end, and with a better saw being available, albeit in a different league price wise, I came to the conclusion that I didn't want to stuff around with it anymore, so I sold the saw on Gumtree tonight, and basically made my money back ( but not the time!! ) The new owners are fully aware they have bought a project saw, but they have a better start than I did with a new belt and a new 24T ripping blade.

I walk away with a lot more knowledge, and know what to look for on the next purchase!

OK, so I've learned my lesson, and have just put down a deposit on a far more substantial saw, which I think will see me through. I'm not buying it brand new, it's second hand, but hasn't seen much use, so is in mint condition:

It's the Woodman SB102OS Contractor style saw

It's got a cast iron top, really good fence and takes 10inch, 12inch or dado blades with a 2HP Induction Motor. By all reports, those members on this forum that have had the saw, have found it very good for the price.

I'm pretty sure this will be a slightly different experience to the Xpert 8inch little saw.

I'm also looking to get the Router Side Table extension for this, to fit my newly purchased 2Hp Ryobi R500 Plunge router ( $60 and it's still in the box - never used!! bargain! )

Hello there, I just bought a saw just like this, I know its been years but do you still have the saw? A previous owner of my saw mounted the motor in a strange way.. which causes the blade to not raise up as high as it should. I want to redo the original mounting but cannot find a photo of the motor mounts anywhere online. Would you have the saw still to take photos of the motor? or do you have old photos still?
